Exodus 15:11

One of the reasons the Maccabees adopted that name is because it is an acronym of the first four words of this verse, Mi Kamocha B'eilim Hashem. The Ramban cites Rashi's opinion, that "the mighty" refers to humans, for which Rashi cites Ezekiel 17:13 and Psalms 22:20 as supports. The Ramban, however, feels that the mighty referred to here are the angels. The angels are referred to by such terms as "the sons of the mighty" and "the sons of G-d" and G-d is called by such names as "G-d of gods." The angels may be pretty impressive but, as the verse tells us, they come nowhere near the might and holiness of our mutual Creator.
