I Chronicles 16:8

הוֹדוּ לַה' קִרְאוּ בִשְׁמוֹ הוֹדִיעוּ בָעַמִּים עֲלִילֹתָיו

Give thanks to Hashem; call His Name; make His actions known among the nations.

Hodu, the first of our verses of praise, comes from the Book of Chronicles. It was sung when King David led the procession to escort the Ark to Jerusalem. The ibn Ezra tells us that "call His Name" means to spread the teaching of G-d. He bases this conclusion on Genesis 21:33, "Abraham planted an eishel in Be'er Sheva; there, he called in the Name of Hashem, G-d of the world." Just as Abraham spread G-d's word in the world, this verse impels us to do likewise.
