1,037. The Shutters of Shop Stalls

Shvisas Yom Tov 4:11

A woman may not walk between piles of wood looking for a branch to roast on, nor may one support a pot or a door with a block of wood, because carrying wood was only permitted on yom tov for the purpose of lighting a fire.

Shvisas Yom Tov 4:12

One may remove and replace the shutters of shop stalls (kiosks) on yom tov in order to get spices that one needs from the shop since the inability to do so would mar his enjoyment of the holiday. This only applies when the shutters are hinged in the middle; if they are hinged on the side, it is prohibited because of the concern that one will come to replace them tightly (which would violate the prohibition against building). If the shutters have no hinge at all, it is permitted to replace them even in one’s home.
