895. Yom Tov After Shabbos
On festival evenings, kiddush is recited over wine just as it is on Shabbos. If one has no wine, or if he prefers bread, he may recite kiddush over bread instead. Similarly, on yom tov day, one recites the “great Kiddush” as he does on Shabbos.
When yom tov begins as Shabbos ends, the order of brachos is: hagefen (on the wine), then kiddush for the holiday. This is followed by the bracha over fire, and then havdalah. The concluding phrase of havdalah in such a case is that God distinguishes “between the holy and the holy.” After all this, one recites shehechiyanu.
