789. A Well with a Pulley
Shabbos 21:4
If a courtyard gets dirty in the rainy season, one may bring straw and spread it out. When doing so, one may not spread it using a basket or other vessel. He should use the underside of the vessel in order to avoid following the usual weekday routine, which could lead one to level the holes in the ground.
Shabbos 21:5
One who waters seeds is liable for sowing. For this reason, it is prohibited to draw water from a well using a pulley out of concern that one may end up drawing water for his garden. If the well is located in one’s courtyard, he may draw water using the pulley.
