774. In the Event of a Foot Injury

Shabbos 19:14

A woman may go out with a stone or other weight that is intended to serve as a cure (specifically to prevent miscarriage). This leniency is not just for pregnant woman; all women may rely on it in case they may become pregnant. One may go out wearing an amulet that has been proven effective by curing three people, or that was prepared by someone who has cured three others by using amulets. If someone goes out wearing an amulet that has not been proven effective, he is not liable because he transported it by wearing it as a garment. Similarly, if someone goes out wearing tefillin, he is not liable.

Shabbos 19:15

A person with a wound on his foot may go out wearing just one sandal, on his uninjured foot. If a person does not have a wound on his foot, he may not go out wearing just one sandal. A child may not go out wearing an adult’s sandals but he may go out wearing an adult’s cloak. A woman may not go out wearing a sandal that is loose or a new sandal that has not been broken in at least a little. A person with one leg may not go out on Shabbos with a wooden leg. We may not go out wearing wooden shoes on Shabbos because doing so is uncommon but if one does go out wearing such shoes, he is not liable.
