763. Transporting for a Specific Purpose

Shabbos 18:20

The rule that one is only liable for transporting a minimum volume of various substances only applies when one transports the item for no specific reason. If, however, someone transports a single seed in order to plant it, or if one transports some substance for medicinal purposes, to show someone as a sample, or for similar such purposes, then one is liable for the transporting even the smallest amount.

Shabbos 18:21

If a person stored something for use as seed, for medicinal purposes or to show others as a sample, and he subsequently forgot why he stored the thing and takes it out on Shabbos for no particular purpose, then he is liable in any size or volume but another person would only be liable for transporting this thing in its minimum volume. If, after transporting the object, the person throws it into storage, his original intention regarding the item is considered canceled; this is so even if he stored it in a designated place. Therefore, if he later brings the thing in, he is only liable if he transports the minimum volume of the item in question.
