761. Transporting Living Things

Shabbos 18:16

One who transports a domestic or wild animal or a bird is liable even if it is alive but a living person is not considered a burden. However, if a person is tied up or ill, one who transports him is liable. A woman may walk a child if he is able to pick up one foot and put the other foot down.

Shabbos 18:17

If person transports a living child who has a purse hanging around his neck, he is liable for transporting the purse because the purse is not considered subordinate to the child. If one transports an adult who is fully dressed and has rings on his hands, he is not liable because everything is considered subordinate to the adult. However, if the adult’s clothes were folded and sitting on his shoulder, then one who transports the adult would be liable because of the clothes.
