723. Enclosed Gardens and Orchards

Shabbos 15:22

What if someone wants to move thorns so that people would not be injured by them? If the thorns are in a public domain, he should move them less than four cubits at a time (i.e., less than six feet). If they are in a carmelis (the quasi-public domain), the thorns may be moved even 100 cubits (150’) in the usual way. Similarly, if a corpse is starting to stink and is so offensive that the neighbors can’t stand to remain, it may be moved from a private domain to a carmelis. If a person bathes in the sea, he should dry himself when he gets out so that he will not carry the water that remains on him beyond four cubits in a carmelis.

Shabbos 16:1

Regarding a place that is enclosed for purposes other than for use as a dwelling and that is used as open space, such as gardens, orchards, and an open space that is enclosed to protect it: if the walls around it are ten handbreadths or higher (30+ inches), it is a private domain for the purposes of transferring, throwing or passing objects from it to the public domain or vice versa but we may not carry in such a place unless its area is sufficient to plant two seah of seed (about seven gallons) or less. If its area is larger than the space needed to plant two seah, we may not carry beyond four cubits in it, the same as in a carmelis. [For more on the area needed to plant two seah, see here.]
