698. The Wagons of the Mishkan

Shabbos 13:18

One is liable for transferring an object from one private domain to another when there is a public domain between them. This is so even if he passes the object above the public domain because this was how the Leviim acted in the work of the Mishkan (Tabernacle), passing the boards from one wagon to the next. Each wagon was a private domain and the public domain passed in between them.

Shabbos 13:19

The preceding applies when two private domains run parallel to one another along the length of a public domain similar to the way the wagons followed one behind the other in a public domain. If the two private domains are positioned opposite from one another on either side of the public domain, then one would not be liable for transferring an object between them.
