640. Performing Multiple Acts of Labor
Shabbos 7:8
Based on the principle stated in 7:7, if a person plows, plants and harvests on Shabbos in one state of unawareness, he must bring three sin offerings for three primary categories of labor. If he violates all 39 categories of labors unintentionally – meaning that he forgot that it is prohibited to do these things on Shabbos - he must bring a sin offering for each category of labor. On the other hand, if he ground grain, diced vegetables and pulverized metal during a single state of unawareness, he must bring only one sin offering because he violated only one primary category of labor and its subordinate labors. This applies in all similar cases.
Shabbos 7:9
If a person performs many acts of labor within the same category of labor in one state of unawareness, he must bring only one sin offering. Therefore, if a person planted, grafted and pruned in a single state of unawareness, he need only bring one sin offering because all of these activities are in the same primary category of labor. This is true in all such circumstances.
