590. More Than One Person Assisting

Shabbos 2:7

If doctors say that the patient needs a fig and ten people run out and bring him back ten figs at one time, they are all exempt. The same is true if the ten people brought the figs in succession. Even though the patient recuperated after the first fig, all of them had extenuating circumstances that permitted them to bring the figs.

Shabbos 2:8

If the patient needed two figs, which could only be found on two different stems, but there are three figs on another stem, we remove the one stem with the three figs even though only two figs are needed. It is better to cut only one stem rather than two, which would increase the number of acts of gleaning being performed. This is true in all comparable scenarios.
