482. Yaaleh v'Yavo and Al HaNissim
Brachos 2:5
On Shabbos and yom tov, one starts and ends the third bracha of bentching with the idea of consolation. In the middle of the bracha, one mentions the unique nature of the day. One starts with either “Comfort us, Hashem, our God…” or “Have mercy on us, Hashem, our God…” and concludes with “Who will comfort His people Israel with the building of Jerusalem” or “the One Who builds Jerusalem.” On Shabbos, the middle of this bracha is:
“Our God and God of our fathers, may it please You, Hashem our God, to strengthen us through Your mitzvos and through the mitzvah of this great and holy Sabbath day. This day is great and holy before You for us to refrain from labor and to rest on it, with love, as per the mandate of Your will. May it be Your will, Hashem our God, to grant us tranquility and may there not come upon us distress, evil, mourning and sorrow on our day of rest.”
On yom tov, as well as on Rosh Chodesh and chol hamoed, one recites yaaleh v’yavo in this bracha.
Brachos 2:6
On Chanukah and Purim, one recites al hanissim in the bracha for the land (i.e., the second bracha), using the same text as one adds in Shemoneh Esrei. When yom tov or Rosh Chodesh falls on Shabbos, one recites r’tzei for Shabbos first, followed by yaaleh v’yavo. Similarly, when Rosh Chodesh Teves (which is during Chanukah) falls Shabbos, one recites al hanissim in the second bracha, and r’tzei and yaaleh v’yavo in the third bracha.
