471. Different Types of Brachos
Brachos 1:3
Just as we recite brachos for the various forms of benefit that we derive from the world, we also recite brachos for each mitzvah before performing it. The Sages also instituted brachos as forms of praise and thanks to God and as a means of making requests from Him. In this way, God will always be in our thoughts, even when we are not enjoying a benefit or performing a mitzvah.
Brachos 1:4
All brachos fall into one of three categories: (1) brachos for partaking of benefits; (2) brachos over performing mitzvos; (3) brachos of praise and thanks to God or as form of request, so that we will always think about God and revere Him.
