463. Non-White Tzitzis
Tzitzis 2:8
If a garment is entirely red, green, or some color other than white, the strings of its tzitzis should be the same color as the garment – green on a green garment, red on a red garment, etc. If the garment itself is techeiles, its non-techeiles strings should be any color other than black, which is too similar to techeiles. He wraps one techeiles string around all the other strings, just as one does with tzitzis that are not colored.
Tzitzis 2:9
The punishment of one who does not wear the white strings of tzitzis is harsher than that of one who does not wear techeiles because the white strings are easily acquired while techeiles is not available in every time and place because of its rarity.
