323. The Replacement Shaliach Tzibbur

Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 10:4

When someone steps in to take over the repetition of Shemoneh Esrei, from where should he begin? If the first shaliach tzibbur erred in one of the middle brachos, his replacement begins from the start of the bracha in which the error was made. If he erred in one of the first three brachos, the replacement starts from the beginning of Shemoneh Esrei. If he erred in one of the last three brachos, the replacement starts from the beginning of that series (which is R’tzei).

Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 10:5

If someone says, “I will not serve as shaliach tzibbur because I’m wearing colored clothes,” he should not be called upon even when he’s wearing white clothes. If he said, “I will not serve as shaliach tzibbur because I am wearing sandals,” he should not be called upon even when he is barefoot. (Clearly, the conventions for proper footwear in davening were different from the ones we know.)
