268. Al HaNissim
Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 2:12
When yom tov falls on a Saturday night, one inserts the following into the fourth bracha:
“You have made Your righteous judgments known to us and taught us to perform the decrees of Your will. You have given us, Hashem, our God, the sanctity of Shabbos, the glory of the festival and the rejoicing of the pilgrimage feast. You have distinguished between the sanctity of Shabbos and that of yom tov, and You have sanctified Shabbos above the six weekdays. You have set Your people Israel apart and sanctified them with Your holiness. You have given us, Hashem, our God, festivals for joy, holidays and seasons for happiness.”
On a weeknight following Shabbos or yom tov, one recites the havdalah prayer in the bracha of “Atah chonantanu” even though we also recite havdalah over a cup.
Tefillah u’Birkas Kohanim 2:13
On Chanukah and Purim, one adds “al hanissim” in the bracha of Modim. On the Shabbos of Chanukah, one adds “al hanissim” in musaf, the same as in any other prayer service.
