Mikvaos 10:4-5

Mikvaos 10:4

The following need the water to enter when immersing them: the knot of an undershirt that ties to the shoulder; a sheet’s edges must be spread out; the knot of head tefillin if not tied tightly; the knot of arm-tefillin if it moves up and down; the laces of a sandal. Clothes that are immersed just after being laundered must be submerged until they inflate but if they are immersed after they have dried, then they must be submerged until they inflate and then stop.

Mikvaos 10:5

Handles of utensils that are too long and which will be shortened need only be immersed up to the their proper length. Rabbi Yehuda says they must be immersed in their entirety. The chain of a large bucket must be immersed for four handbreadths (about 12”) and that of a small bucket for ten handbreadths (about 30”), and they must only be immersed up to their proper lengths. Rabbi Tarfon says that it’s not purified unless the whole link is immersed. The rope tied to a basket is not considered connected unless it has been sewn to it.
