Mikvaos 6:4-5
Mikvaos 6:4
If a sponge or a bucket holding three log of water fell into a mikvah, the mikvah is not invalidated because the Sages only said “if three log fell in” (i.e., not all the water in the sponge or the bucket seeps into the mikvah).
Mikvaos 6:5
If a chest or a box is in the sea, one may not immerse utensils in it unless it has a hole the size of a waterskin’s spout. Rabbi Yehuda says that for a large utensil the hole must be four handbreadths (about a foot) and for a small utensil the hole must be as large as the greater part of the utensil. If a sack or a basket is in the sea, one may immerse utensils in it “as is” since the waters mingle. If the sack or basket is placed under a rain spout, it doesn’t invalidate a mikvah. Rather, one may immerse utensils in it and bring it up in the normal manner.
