Hurry Up and Slow Down

You cannot properly absorb the lessons of a Torah shiur without hisbonenus. The yetzer hara has dual and opposite functions: It dampens and slows us from performing mitzvos, lacing the experience with pain, and it speeds us up when we consider violating the Torah.   Sins corrupt us both in olam haba and olam hazeh. Pursuit of ta’avah, in addition to other consequences, results in you not becoming what you are meant to be.   The discomfort we have in talking about punishment has resulted in a watered down generation with weakened emunah. Spiritual downfall is often achieved by the yetzer hara slowly corrupting us, and gradually leading us astray, to adopt other values.

This shiur references the Biur HaGra.
