82. At What Age to Start?
Talmud Torah 1:5
A man should study Torah first and marry second. If he marries first, his mind won’t be free to focus on his studies. However, if his natural urges overpower him to such a degree that his mind isn’t free anyway, then he should marry first and study Torah second.
Talmud Torah 1:6
When a child begins to speak, his father should teach him the verses of “Torah tziva lanu Moshe...” (Deuteronomy 33:4) and Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4). After that, he should teach his son various verses, one at a time, until he is six or seven years old, at which point he should turn his son’s education over to a teacher.
