Parah 12:10-11

Parah 12:10

Beis Shammai say that if the lid of a kettle is connected with a chain, they are considered connected for purposes of rendering unclean but not for sprinkling to purify; Beis Hillel say that if one sprinkles on the kettle, it’s as if the lid was also sprinkled but if he only sprinkled on the lid, it’s not as if the kettle was also sprinkled. Everyone is able to sprinkle except for a hermaphrodite, a person of indeterminate gender, a woman and a child who isn’t old enough to understand. A woman may assist in sprinkling, holding the water while one dips and sprinkles. If she held his hand, even if only while he was sprinkling, it is invalid.

Parah 12:11

If one dipped the hyssop into the water by day and sprinkled by day, it is valid. If he dipped by day and sprinkled at night, or dipped at night and sprinkled the next day, it is invalid. He, however, may immerse himself at night and sprinkle the next day because sprinkling isn’t done until after sunrise. If any of these things was done at the crack of dawn, it is valid.
