1,342. Shoes
209:5 The prohibition against wearing shoes only applies to those made of leather, not to those of cloth, rubber or other materials. This is because, halachically-speaking, the term “shoes” only refers to leather. A wooden shoe covered in leather is prohibited. Even though a mourner is not permitted to wear shoes, he still recites “Who provided all my needs” in the morning blessings.
209:6 A woman who has given birth is permitted to wear (leather) shoes for the entire thirty days after (even in mourning). The same is true of an ill person and one with a foot injury because the cold ground would make things difficult for them.
