#216: Machshavah
The Leket Sichot Mussar (R. Sher, son-in-law of the Alter of Slobodka) writes that when a person closes his store on Friday or steps away from his work, he should “hand over the keys” to Hashem. This means recognizing that no matter how many hours one works or how much effort one invests, parnasah is ultimately determined by Hashem alone. The moment a person internalizes this, he can release the illusion that everything depends on his exertion.
With that awareness, Shabbat becomes a time of genuine peace. Instead of carrying financial worries into the day of rest, one can set them aside and turn fully to the spiritual gifts of Shabbat. By “letting go” and entrusting one’s livelihood to Hashem, a person not only honors the sanctity of the day but also strengthens his own sense of calm, gratitude, and bitachon throughout the week.
