1,227. Returning the Deposit

188:4 The one holding a deposit is not permitted to entrust it to others, even if they are upright people and even more reliable than he is. If the depositor is also in the habit of depositing such things with them, then it is permitted.

188:5 When returning the deposit, one may not return it to a member of the depositor's household without his knowledge. The same is true when returning a borrowed object or repaying a debt. One may, however, return the object to the depositor's wife because it is common for the wife to manage the household affairs and the husband puts everything in her charge.
