1,224. Doubtfully-Lost Items
187:3 When a person finds an object, whether or not it has an identifying mark, if he found it resting in a particular place, like a garment or an axe by the side of a fence, even if there is doubt whether it was placed there intentionally or lost there, it is forbidden to touch it.
187:4 If an elderly and respected person found a lost object, if it's something degrading that even if it was his own he would not pick it up and carry it home because it would be disgraceful for him, then he is not obligated to deal with it. Nevertheless, he should go beyond the letter of the law and deal with it even though it is beneath his dignity.
