1,163. Shaatnez in Your Lap or on Your Back
176:6 If a Jew is sewing shaatnez garments for a non-Jew, he may do so in the normal fashion, even though the garments rest in his lap, so long as he doesn't intend to get any benefit from the garments resting on him. Similarly, those who sell clothes, carrying their wares on their shoulders, are permitted to carry shaatnez garments so long as they don't intend for these garments to protect them from the cold or the rain. In any case, pious people will carry them on a pole.
176:7 Handkerchiefs, towels and tablecloths, as well as the cover on the bimah in shul, are all prohibited if they contain shaatnez. The same is true for curtains but the curtain in front of the aron (ark) in shul may be made of shaatnez.
