1,152. Chodosh
171:3 A man is not permitted to pluck even a single white hair from among the black hairs as this is a practice associated with women for the purpose of beautification. It similarly prohibited for him to dye even one white hair black, and to examine himself in a mirror. He is permitted to do so for medical reasons, to trim his hair, or to remove dirt from his face or head. In a place where it is the accepted practice for men also to look at themselves in mirrors, then it is completely permitted.
172:1 Leviticus 23:14 says, "You may not eat bread, roasted grain or fresh ears until that day...," meaning that we may not eat from new produce ("chodosh") of the five species of grain until after the bringing the omer on the sixteen day of the month of Nisan. Nowadays, there is no omer so eating it that entire day is prohibited. For those of us who live outside of Israel, where we observe a second day of Yom Tov, the entire day of the 16 Nisan is also prohibited, until the evening of 18 Nisan. If produce was sown and took root before 17 Nisan, this omer made it permissible immediately after harvesting. If it didn't take root before 16 Nisan, it would be forbidden until the following year's omer.
