3,462. Entrusting Produce to a Miller

Hilchos Maaser 11:13

If someone brings wheat to an unlearned miller, he can assume that its status quo is maintained, as we do not suspect that the miller may exchange it. If one brought his wheat to a non-Jewish miller, it is demai because he may have exchanged it with the wheat of an unlearned person. Similarly, if one leaves produce with an unlearned person to watch, it remains permitted because we don’t suspect that he would exchange produce entrusted to him.

Hilchos Maaser 11:14

If an unlearned person manages the store of a learned person, one may eat the produce of that store because we don’t suspect that the employee may have exchanged it. This is true even if the learned owner only visits the store occasionally.
