3,326. Permitted and Prohibited Parts of Terumah Produce
Terumos 11:10
The following parts of terumah produce are prohibited to non-kohanim: the stems of figs, dried figs, wild figs and carobs; the inside of melons; melon rinds and esrog and cucumber peels even when there’s no food in them; the ends of vegetables that are thrown away by homeowners. However, the ends of vegetables that are severed by gardeners are permitted to non-kohanim. [A homeowner will throw away parts that might be eaten; a gardener only discards pure trash.] The husks of beans and sesame seeds are prohibited if they contain food but permitted it they don’t.
Terumos 11:11
Esrog seeds (of terumah) are permitted to a non-kohein; olive seeds, date seeds and carob seeds are prohibited even when they have not been taken in by a kohein. When it comes to other types of seeds, if they have been taken in and are moist enough to suck on, they are prohibited to non-kohanim; if they were thrown away, they are permitted.
