3,155. Who Harvests the Olelos?

Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 4:18

Kataf (in halacha 4:17) refers to small clusters of grapes that are connected to the main stem, one above the next. Nataf refers to grapes connected to the main stem that hang down. This is when all the individual grapes in an oleles can touch the palm of one’s hand. Such a cluster is called “olal” (“infant”) because it is to a fully developed cluster as an infant is to an adult.

Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 4:19

The landowner need not harvest the underdeveloped clusters and give them to the needy. Rather, the needy should harvest them for themselves. Loose grapes are olelos.
