3,139. Onions Planted in Patches Between Vegetables

Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 3:9

The previous halacha (about trees not separating a field even when planting in noncontiguous squares between them) applies when all ten trees were in an area in which a seah of seed (about 3.5 gallons) can be planted. However, if all the trees are in a space larger than this, then he must leave peah for each square individually. This is because the trees are far apart from one another, so they didn’t make him plant the field in squares.

Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 3:10

Similarly, if someone grows onions in squares between vegetables, he leaves just one peah for all the onions despite the fact that vegetables grow between them and make them look like separate squares.
