3,116. Putting Shaatnez on Another Person

Hilchos Kilayim 10:30

One who wears or covers himself with shaatnez is liable to the penalty of lashes. If he wore shaatnez all day, he is only liable to one set of lashes, but if he repeatedly inserted his head in and out of a shaatnez garment, he is liable for each instance even though he never removed the garment completely. A person is only liable to one set of lashes when he was only warned once; if people repeatedly warned him to remove the garment, but he continued wearing it for the length of time it would take to remove it and put it back on after being warned, then he is liable for each interval of this time that he wore it. [For example, if it would take six minutes to remove the garment and put it back on, and he wore it for an hour after being warned, that would be ten violations of shaatnez.] This is because he was warned about the garment but still persisted in wearing it.

Let’s say that one person dressed another in shaatnez. If the one wearing it did so intentionally, he is liable to lashes and the one who dressed him is liable for lifnei iveir (misleading others). If the one wearing it didn’t know it was shaatnez and the person who dressed him put shaatnez on him intentionally, then the dresser is liable to lashes and the wearer is altogether exempt.
