3,093. Vines Planted in the Corner Where Walls Meet

Hilchos Kilayim 8:9

Let’s say that there are two walls perpendicular to one another; vines are planted in the corner between them and the “cradle” extends from the corner and then ends. In such a case, one may distance as necessary from the vines’ roots and plant where the “cradle” ceases. Even if vegetables were planted between the two walls where there’s a “cradle,” since he distanced the requisite amount, one may plant between the walls.

Hilchos Kilayim 8:10

Let’s say that the trunk of a vine travels up over the ground, then it bends and travels along the ground, only to go up again, like a knee. When measuring six handbreadths or four cubits from the vine to vegetables, we only measure from the end of the part that goes up, not from the root of the first vine.
