Shnayim Mikra - Yom Tov Readings

QUESTION: Is one also required to review the Torah reading of Yom Tov or Chanukah, Shnayim Mikra V’echad Targum?

ANSWER: Shulchan Aruch (OC 285:7) rules that one is not required to review the parshiyos that will be read on Yom Tov as part of the obligation of Shnayim Mikra V’echad Targum, since these Torah portions will be read (or have already been read) throughout the year, as one of the weekly portions. The same would hold true for all other special Torah readings such as Parashas Shekalim, Parashas Zachor, Rosh Chodesh, Chanukah or Purim. Similarly, one is not required to review the Haftara reading (portion from the Prophets read on Shabbos), but some have the custom to review it one time before it is read in shul (Rama ibid). The Mishnah Berurah (OC 284:11) writes that it is preferable to recite the haftorah quietly together with the one who is reading it aloud in order to focus on the Haftara.
