Leviticus 1:1

Readers are likely familiar with the Midrash explaining the small letter alef in the word “Vayikra” (“and He called”). Moshe was too humble to have the Torah record that G-d sought him out; He preferred it to say “vayikar” (“and He encountered”), as it does by the pagan prophet Balaam.  G-d compromised with this request by reducing the alef in size. But what happened to the surplus ink that had been allotted to write the alef regular size? The Midrash Rabbah continues that G-d smeared it on Moshe’s forehead, causing the rays of light described in Exodus 34:29.
