3,036. Burying Bundles of Vegetables

Hilchos Kilayim 2:11

One is not permitted to plant vegetables in the stump of a fig tree or something similar. Let’s say that someone buries a bundle of turnips, radishes or similar produce under a tree or a vine. If some of the leaves remain visible, he need not be concerned about mixed species because his intention is not for the vegetables to take root. If the vegetables weren’t bundled together or if their leaves didn’t remain visible, then one must be concerned regarding mixed species.

Hilchos Kilayim 2:12

Let’s say that a field was planted and its produce harvested, but the roots were left in the ground. Even though the roots that remain won’t sprout again for several years, one may not plant another species in the field until the roots have been removed.
