3,029. Eating the Produce of Mixed Species

Hilchos Kilayim 1:6

A Jew is not permitted to let a non-Jew graft different types of trees together for him. It is permitted to plant the seeds of produce and trees together; one may even mix the seeds of different trees together and plant them. This is because the only part of kilayim that applies to trees is that we’re not allowed to graft different species together.

Hilchos Kilayim 1:7

Even though one is liable to lashes for planting mixed species or for grafting different species of trees, the produce that grows from such things may be eaten, even by the one who violated the law and planted them. This is because it’s only the act of planting that’s prohibited. One may plant the branch of a grafted tree or the seeds of a vegetable that was planted with mixed species.
