3,002. Consecrating Oneself

Hilchos Arachin Vacharamin 6:19

If someone consecrates his servant’s hands, whatever the servant earns beyond what’s necessary for own his support is consecrated. Such a servant supports himself as follows: he borrows money, works and repays the loan. The catch is that he may only work for less than a p'rutah at a time. This is because if he earns a whole p’rutah, it’s immediately acquired by the Temple.

Hilchos Arachin Vacharamin 6:20

If someone consecrates himself, he only consecrates his value, and he must pay that amount. Such a person may earn money and use it for his support because his physical self was not consecrated as a servant would be.
