7. Remember the days of old; understand the years of generation and generation. Ask your father, and he will tell you; your elders and they will say to you. 8. When the Most High gave nations their inheritance, in His separation of the sons of man, He upheld[1] the boundaries of peoples according to the number of the children of Israel. 9. Because Hashem’s portion is His people: Yaakov, the lot[2] of His inheritance. 10. He supplied their necessities in a wilderness land, in a place of thirst, a site that lacked water. He camped them all around His presence, He taught them words of Torah, He protected them like the pupil of their[3] eye. 11. Like an eagle is concerned for[4] its nest, hovering over its young, spreading its wings, receiving them, carrying them on the strength of its pinions, 12. Hashem in the future will have them dwell alone in a world that in the future will be made new, and the service of errors will not stand before Him.
[1] Rather than “set.”
[2] The Hebrew chevel literally means a rope but is understood to mean one’s lot.
[3] Rather than “His.”
[4] Or, perhaps, broods over.
