(יח) שֹׁפְטִ֣ים וְשֹֽׁטְרִ֗ים תִּֽתֶּן־לְךָ֙ בְּכׇל־שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לְךָ֖ לִשְׁבָטֶ֑יךָ וְשָׁפְט֥וּ אֶת־הָעָ֖ם מִשְׁפַּט־צֶֽדֶק׃ (יט) לֹא־תַטֶּ֣ה מִשְׁפָּ֔ט לֹ֥א תַכִּ֖יר פָּנִ֑ים וְלֹא־תִקַּ֣ח שֹׁ֔חַד כִּ֣י הַשֹּׁ֗חַד יְעַוֵּר֙ עֵינֵ֣י חֲכָמִ֔ים וִֽיסַלֵּ֖ף דִּבְרֵ֥י צַדִּיקִֽם׃ (כ) צֶ֥דֶק צֶ֖דֶק תִּרְדֹּ֑ף לְמַ֤עַן תִּֽחְיֶה֙ וְיָרַשְׁתָּ֣ אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽךְ׃ {ס}
(יח) דַּיָּנִין וּפֻרְעָנִין תְּמַנֵּי לָךְ בְּכָל קִרְוָיךְ דִּי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ יָהֵב לָךְ לְשִׁבְטָיךְ וִידוּנוּן יָת עַמָּא דִּין דִּקְשׁוֹט: (יט) לָא תַצְלֵי דִין לָא תִשְׁתְּמוֹדַע אַפִּין וְלָא תְקַבֵּל שֹׁחֲדָא אֲרֵי שֹׁחֲדָא מְעַוֵּר עֵינֵי חַכִּימִין וּמְקַלְקֵל פִּתְגָּמִין תְּרִיצִין: (כ) קֻשְׁטָא קֻשְׁטָא תְּהֵי רָדִיף בְּדִיל דְּתֵיחֵי וְתֵירַת יָת אַרְעָא דַּיְיָ אֱלָהָךְ יָהֵב לָךְ:
18. You shall appoint[1] for yourself judges and corrections officers[2] for your tribes in all your cities that Hashem your God gives you, and they shall judge the people (with) true[3] judgment. 19. You shall not pervert judgment; do not recognize faces[4] and do not accept[5] a bribe, because a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the righteous words.[6] 20. Truth, truth[7] you shall pursue, in order that you will live and you will inherit the land that Hashem your God gives to you.
(כא) לֹֽא־תִטַּ֥ע לְךָ֛ אֲשֵׁרָ֖ה כׇּל־עֵ֑ץ אֵ֗צֶל מִזְבַּ֛ח יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּֽךְ׃ (כב) וְלֹֽא־תָקִ֥ים לְךָ֖ מַצֵּבָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂנֵ֖א יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ {ס}
(כא) לָא תִצּוֹב לָךְ אֲשֵׁרַת כָּל אִילָן בִּסְטַר מַדְבְּחָא דַּיְיָ אֱלָהָךְ דִּי תַעְבֶּד לָךְ: (כב) וְלָא תְקִים לָךְ קָמָא דִּי סָנֵי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ:
21. Do not plant for yourself an asheira of any tree beside the altar of Hashem your God that you might make for yourself, 22. and do not erect a pillar for yourself that Hashem your God hates.
Chapter 17
(א) לֹא־תִזְבַּח֩ לַיהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ שׁ֣וֹר וָשֶׂ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִהְיֶ֥ה בוֹ֙ מ֔וּם כֹּ֖ל דָּבָ֣ר רָ֑ע כִּ֧י תוֹעֲבַ֛ת יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ הֽוּא׃ {ס}
(א) לָא תִכּוֹס קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ תּוֹר וְאִמָּר דִּי יְהֵי בֵיהּ מוּמָא כֹּל מִדַּעַם בִּישׁ אֲרֵי מְרָחָק קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ הוּא:
1. Do not sacrifice before Hashem your God an ox or[8] a sheep that will have defect of any bad matter, because that is disgusting[9] to Hashem your God.
(ב) כִּֽי־יִמָּצֵ֤א בְקִרְבְּךָ֙ בְּאַחַ֣ד שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֑ךְ אִ֣ישׁ אוֹ־אִשָּׁ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר יַעֲשֶׂ֧ה אֶת־הָרַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהֹוָה־אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ לַעֲבֹ֥ר בְּרִיתֽוֹ׃ (ג) וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ וַֽיַּעֲבֹד֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ לָהֶ֑ם וְלַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ ׀ א֣וֹ לַיָּרֵ֗חַ א֛וֹ לְכׇל־צְבָ֥א הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־צִוִּֽיתִי׃ (ד) וְהֻֽגַּד־לְךָ֖ וְשָׁמָ֑עְתָּ וְדָרַשְׁתָּ֣ הֵיטֵ֔ב וְהִנֵּ֤ה אֱמֶת֙ נָכ֣וֹן הַדָּבָ֔ר נֶעֶשְׂתָ֛ה הַתּוֹעֵבָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ה) וְהֽוֹצֵאתָ֣ אֶת־הָאִ֣ישׁ הַה֡וּא אוֹ֩ אֶת־הָאִשָּׁ֨ה הַהִ֜וא אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָ֠שׂ֠וּ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֨ר הָרָ֤ע הַזֶּה֙ אֶל־שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ אֶת־הָאִ֕ישׁ א֖וֹ אֶת־הָאִשָּׁ֑ה וּסְקַלְתָּ֥ם בָּאֲבָנִ֖ים וָמֵֽתוּ׃ (ו) עַל־פִּ֣י ׀ שְׁנַ֣יִם עֵדִ֗ים א֛וֹ שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה עֵדִ֖ים יוּמַ֣ת הַמֵּ֑ת לֹ֣א יוּמַ֔ת עַל־פִּ֖י עֵ֥ד אֶחָֽד׃ (ז) יַ֣ד הָעֵדִ֞ים תִּֽהְיֶה־בּ֤וֹ בָרִאשֹׁנָה֙ לַהֲמִית֔וֹ וְיַ֥ד כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם בָּאַחֲרֹנָ֑ה וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָרָ֖ע מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃ {פ}
(ב) אֲרֵי יִשְׁתְּכַח בֵּינָךְ בַּחֲדָא מִקִּרְוָיךְ דַּיְיָ אֱלָהָךְ יָהֵב לָךְ גְּבַר אוֹ אִתְּתָא דִּי יַעְבֵּד יָת דְּבִישׁ קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְמֶעְבַּר עַל קְיָמֵיהּ: (ג) וַאֲזַל וּפְלַח לְטַעֲוַת עַמְמַיָּא וּסְגִיד לְהוֹן וּלְשִׁמְשָׁא אוֹ לְסִיהֲרָא אוֹ לְכָל חֵילֵי שְׁמַיָּא דִּי לָא פַקֵּדִית: (ד) וִיחַוּוּן לָךְ וְתִשְׁמָע וְתִתְבַּע יָאוּת וְהָא קֻשְׁטָא כֵּוַן פִּתְגָּמָא אִתְעֲבִידַת תּוֹעֶבְתָּא הָדָא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל: (ה) וְתַפֵּק יָת גַּבְרָא הַהוּא אוֹ יָת אִתְּתָא הַהִיא דִּי עֲבָדוּ יָת פִּתְגָּמָא בִישָׁא הָדֵין לִתְרַע בֵּית דִּינָךְ יָת גַּבְרָא אוֹ יָת אִתְּתָא וְתִרְגְּמִנּוּן בְּאַבְנַיָּא וִימוּתוּן: (ו) עַל מֵימַר תְּרֵין סַהֲדִין אוֹ תְּלָתָא סַהֲדִין יִתְקְטֵל דְּחַיַּב קְטוֹל לָא יִתְקְטֵל עַל מֵימַר סָהִיד חָד: (ז) יְדָא דְסַהֲדַיָּא תְּהֵי בֵיהּ בְּקַדְמֵיתָא לְמִקְטְלֵיהּ וִידָא דְכָל עַמָּא בְּבַתְרֵיתָא וּתְפַלֵּי עָבֵד דְּבִישׁ מִבֵּינָךְ:
2. If there will be found among you, in one of your cities that Hashem your God gives to you, a man or a woman who has performed that which is evil[10] before[11] Hashem your God to violate the covenant, 3. and he will go and he will serve the errors of the nations and bow down to them, and to the sun or to the moon, or to any of the hosts of the heavens that I didn’t command, 4. and they will tell[12] you and you will hear, then you shall investigate well. And behold, (if) it is true, (if) the matter is correct, (that) this abomination was done in Israel, 5. you shall take that man or that woman who did this evil thing to the gate of your court, and you shall stone that man or that woman with stones and he shall die. 6. By the word[13] of two witnesses or three witnesses the one convicted to death will die;[14] he shall not die on the word of one witness. 7. The hand of the witnesses shall be on him first to put him to death, and the hand of all the people afterwards. And you will remove the malefactor[15] from among you.
(ח) כִּ֣י יִפָּלֵא֩ מִמְּךָ֨ דָבָ֜ר לַמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט בֵּֽין־דָּ֨ם ׀ לְדָ֜ם בֵּֽין־דִּ֣ין לְדִ֗ין וּבֵ֥ין נֶ֙גַע֙ לָנֶ֔גַע דִּבְרֵ֥י רִיבֹ֖ת בִּשְׁעָרֶ֑יךָ וְקַמְתָּ֣ וְעָלִ֔יתָ אֶ֨ל־הַמָּק֔וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִבְחַ֛ר יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בּֽוֹ׃ (ט) וּבָאתָ֗ אֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִים֙ הַלְוִיִּ֔ם וְאֶ֨ל־הַשֹּׁפֵ֔ט אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִהְיֶ֖ה בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֑ם וְדָרַשְׁתָּ֙ וְהִגִּ֣ידוּ לְךָ֔ אֵ֖ת דְּבַ֥ר הַמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ (י) וְעָשִׂ֗יתָ עַל־פִּ֤י הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַגִּ֣ידֽוּ לְךָ֔ מִן־הַמָּק֣וֹם הַה֔וּא אֲשֶׁ֖ר יִבְחַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֑ה וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֣ לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת כְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יוֹרֽוּךָ׃ (יא) עַל־פִּ֨י הַתּוֹרָ֜ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר יוֹר֗וּךָ וְעַל־הַמִּשְׁפָּ֛ט אֲשֶׁר־יֹאמְר֥וּ לְךָ֖ תַּעֲשֶׂ֑ה לֹ֣א תָס֗וּר מִן־הַדָּבָ֛ר אֲשֶׁר־יַגִּ֥ידֽוּ לְךָ֖ יָמִ֥ין וּשְׂמֹֽאל׃ (יב) וְהָאִ֞ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה בְזָד֗וֹן לְבִלְתִּ֨י שְׁמֹ֤עַ אֶל־הַכֹּהֵן֙ הָעֹמֵ֞ד לְשָׁ֤רֶת שָׁם֙ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ א֖וֹ אֶל־הַשֹּׁפֵ֑ט וּמֵת֙ הָאִ֣ישׁ הַה֔וּא וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָרָ֖ע מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (יג) וְכׇל־הָעָ֖ם יִשְׁמְע֣וּ וְיִרָ֑אוּ וְלֹ֥א יְזִיד֖וּן עֽוֹד׃ {ס}
(ח) אֲרֵי יִתִּכְסֵי מִנָּךְ פִּתְגָּמָא לְדִינָא בֵּין דְּמָא לִדְמָא בֵּין דִּינָא לְדִינָא וּבֵין מַכְתַּשׁ סְגִירוּ לְמַכְתַּשׁ סְגִירוּ פִּתְגָּמֵי פְלֻגְתָּא דִינָא בְּקִרְוָיךְ וּתְקוּם וְתִסַּק לְאַתְרָא דִּי יִתִּרְעֵי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בֵּיהּ: (ט) וְתֵיתֵי לְוָת כָּהֲנַיָא לֵוָאֵי וּלְוָת דַּיָּנָא דִּי יְהֵי בְּיוֹמַיָּא הָאִנּוּן וְתִתְבַּע וִיחַוּוּן לָךְ יָת פִּתְגָּמָא דְדִינָא: (י) וְתַעְבֵּד עַל מֵימַר פִּתְגָּמָא דִּי יְחַוּוּן לָךְ מִן אַתְרָא הַהוּא דִּי יִתִּרְעֵי יְיָ וְתִטַּר לְמֶעְבַּד כְּכֹל דִּי יַלְּפֻנָּךְ: (יא) עַל מֵימַר אוֹרַיְתָא דִּי יַלְּפֻנָּךְ וְעַל דִּינָא דִּי יֵימְרוּן לָךְ תַּעְבֵּד לָא תִסְטֵי מִן פִּתְגָּמָא דִּי יְחַוּוּן לָךְ יַמִּינָא וּשְׂמָאלָא: (יב) וּגְבַר דִּי יַעְבֵּד בִּרְשַׁע בְּדִיל דְּלָא לְקַבָּלָא מִן כַּהֲנָא דְּקָאֵם לְשַׁמָּשָׁא תַמָּן קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ אוֹ מִן דַּיָּנָא וְיִתְקְטֵל גַּבְרָא הַהוּא וּתְפַלֵּי עָבֵד דְּבִישׁ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל: (יג) וְכָל עַמָּא יִשְׁמְעוּן וְיִדְחֲלוּן וְלָא יַרְשִׁיעוּן עוֹד:
8. If a matter for judgment will be hidden from you, between blood and blood, between law and law, and between quarantine affliction and quarantine affliction,[16] matters of legal dispute in your cities, you shall arise and ascend to the place that Hashem your God will favor. 9. You shall come to the priests – the Levites – and to the judge who will be in those days. You shall inquire and they will tell you the matter of judgment. 10. You shall do according to the matter that they will tell you from the place that Hashem will favor, and you shall observe to do according to all that they will instruct you. 11. You shall act according to the law[17] that they will teach you, and on the judgment that they will say to you; do not deviate from the matter that they will tell you – right or[18] left. 12. And the man who will act evilly[19] in that he doesn’t accept from the priest who stands to minister there before Hashem your God, or from the judge, that man shall be executed and you will remove the malefactor from Israel. 13. And all the people will hear and be afraid and they will not act evilly further.
