Chapter 15
(א) מִקֵּ֥ץ שֶֽׁבַע־שָׁנִ֖ים תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה שְׁמִטָּֽה׃ (ב) וְזֶה֮ דְּבַ֣ר הַשְּׁמִטָּה֒ שָׁמ֗וֹט כׇּל־בַּ֙עַל֙ מַשֵּׁ֣ה יָד֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַשֶּׁ֖ה בְּרֵעֵ֑הוּ לֹֽא־יִגֹּ֤שׂ אֶת־רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ וְאֶת־אָחִ֔יו כִּֽי־קָרָ֥א שְׁמִטָּ֖ה לַיהֹוָֽה׃ (ג) אֶת־הַנׇּכְרִ֖י תִּגֹּ֑שׂ וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר יִהְיֶ֥ה לְךָ֛ אֶת־אָחִ֖יךָ תַּשְׁמֵ֥ט יָדֶֽךָ׃ (ד) אֶ֕פֶס כִּ֛י לֹ֥א יִֽהְיֶה־בְּךָ֖ אֶבְי֑וֹן כִּֽי־בָרֵ֤ךְ יְבָֽרֶכְךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֔ה בָּאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ נֹֽתֵן־לְךָ֥ נַחֲלָ֖ה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ (ה) רַ֚ק אִם־שָׁמ֣וֹעַ תִּשְׁמַ֔ע בְּק֖וֹל יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֤ר לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּֽוֹם׃ (ו) כִּֽי־יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ בֵּֽרַכְךָ֔ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּר־לָ֑ךְ וְהַֽעֲבַטְתָּ֞ גּוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֗ים וְאַתָּה֙ לֹ֣א תַעֲבֹ֔ט וּמָֽשַׁלְתָּ֙ בְּגוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֔ים וּבְךָ֖ לֹ֥א יִמְשֹֽׁלוּ׃ {ס}
(א) מִסּוֹף שְׁבַע שְׁנִין תַּעְבֵּד שְׁמִטְּתָא: (ב) וְדֵין פִּתְגַּם שְׁמִטְּתָא דְּתַשְׁמֵט כָּל גְּבַר מָרֵי רְשׁוּ דִּי יַרְשֵׁי בְּחַבְרֵיהּ לָא יִתְבַּע מִן חַבְרֵיהּ וּמִן אֲחוּהִי אֲרֵי קְרָא שְׁמִטְּתָא קֳדָם יְיָ: (ג) מִן בַּר עַמְמִין תִּתְבַּע וְדִי יְהֵי לָךְ עִם אָחוּךְ תַּשְׁמֵט יְדָךְ: (ד) לְחוֹד אֲרֵי לָא יְהֵי בָךְ מִסְכֵּנָא אֲרֵי בָרָכָא יְבָרֵכִנָּךְ יְיָ בְּאַרְעָא דִּי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ יָהֵב לָךְ אַחֲסָנָא לְמֵירְתַהּ: (ה) לְחוֹד אִם קַבָּלָא תְקַבֵּל לְמֵימְרָא דַּיְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְמִטַּר לְמֶעְבַּד יָת כָּל תַּפְקֶדְתָּא הָדָא דִּי אֲנָא מְפַקְּדָךְ יוֹמָא דֵין: (ו) אֲרֵי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בָּרְכָךְ כְּמָא דִּי מַלִּיל לָךְ וְתוֹזֵף לְעַמְמִין סַגִּיאִין וְאַתְּ לָא תְזוּף וְתִשְׁלוֹט בְּעַמְמִין סַגִּיאִין וּבָךְ לָא יִשְׁלְטוּן:
1. At the end of seven years you shall make a release.[1] 2. And this is the matter of the release: that every person owed a debt[2] shall release that which he lent his fellow. He shall not demand from his fellow and his brother, because a release has been announced before Hashem. 3. From a citizen of (the) nations you shall demand, and what is yours from your brother your hand shall release. 4. However, there will be no needy person among you, because Hashem will surely bless you in the land that Hashem your God gives you as a heritage to inherit. 5. Only if you surely accept the word of Hashem your God to observe to perform all this commandment that I command you today. 6. Because Hashem your God will bless you like what He said to you; you will lend to many nations, and you won’t borrow; you will rule over many nations, and over you they will not rule.
(ז) כִּֽי־יִהְיֶה֩ בְךָ֨ אֶבְי֜וֹן מֵאַחַ֤ד אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ בְּאַחַ֣ד שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ בְּאַ֨רְצְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֑ךְ לֹ֧א תְאַמֵּ֣ץ אֶת־לְבָבְךָ֗ וְלֹ֤א תִקְפֹּץ֙ אֶת־יָ֣דְךָ֔ מֵאָחִ֖יךָ הָאֶבְיֽוֹן׃ (ח) כִּֽי־פָתֹ֧חַ תִּפְתַּ֛ח אֶת־יָדְךָ֖ ל֑וֹ וְהַעֲבֵט֙ תַּעֲבִיטֶ֔נּוּ דֵּ֚י מַחְסֹר֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֶחְסַ֖ר לֽוֹ׃ (ט) הִשָּׁ֣מֶר לְךָ֡ פֶּן־יִהְיֶ֣ה דָבָר֩ עִם־לְבָבְךָ֨ בְלִיַּ֜עַל לֵאמֹ֗ר קָֽרְבָ֣ה שְׁנַֽת־הַשֶּׁ֘בַע֮ שְׁנַ֣ת הַשְּׁמִטָּה֒ וְרָעָ֣ה עֵֽינְךָ֗ בְּאָחִ֙יךָ֙ הָֽאֶבְי֔וֹן וְלֹ֥א תִתֵּ֖ן ל֑וֹ וְקָרָ֤א עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה וְהָיָ֥ה בְךָ֖ חֵֽטְא׃ (י) נָת֤וֹן תִּתֵּן֙ ל֔וֹ וְלֹא־יֵרַ֥ע לְבָבְךָ֖ בְּתִתְּךָ֣ ל֑וֹ כִּ֞י בִּגְלַ֣ל ׀ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֗ה יְבָרֶכְךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכׇֽל־מַעֲשֶׂ֔ךָ וּבְכֹ֖ל מִשְׁלַ֥ח יָדֶֽךָ׃ (יא) כִּ֛י לֹא־יֶחְדַּ֥ל אֶבְי֖וֹן מִקֶּ֣רֶב הָאָ֑רֶץ עַל־כֵּ֞ן אָנֹכִ֤י מְצַוְּךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר פָּ֠תֹ֠חַ תִּפְתַּ֨ח אֶת־יָדְךָ֜ לְאָחִ֧יךָ לַעֲנִיֶּ֛ךָ וּלְאֶבְיֹנְךָ֖ בְּאַרְצֶֽךָ׃ {ס}
(ז) אֲרֵי יְהֵי בָךְ מִסְכֵּנָא חַד מֵאַחָיךְ בַּחֲדָא מִקִּרְוָיךְ בְּאַרְעָךְ דַּיְיָ אֱלָהָךְ יָהֵב לָךְ לָא תַתְקֵף יָת לִבָּךְ וְלָא תִקְפֹּץ יָת יְדָךְ מֵאֲחוּךְ מִסְכֵּנָא: (ח) אֶלָּא מִפְתַּח תִּפְתַּח יָת יְדָךְ לֵיהּ וְאוֹזָפָא תּוֹזְפִנֵּיהּ כְּמִסַּת חֶסְרוֹנֵיהּ דְּיַחֲסִיר לֵיהּ: (ט) אִסְתַּמַּר לָךְ דִּילְמָא יְהֵי פִתְגָּם עִם לִבָּךְ בִּרְשַׁע לְמֵימַר קְרִיבָא שַׁתָּא שְׁבִיעֲתָא שַׁתָּא דִשְׁמִטְּתָא וְתַבְאֵשׁ עֵינָךְ בְּאָחוּךְ מִסְכֵּנָא וְלָא תִתֵּן לֵיהּ וְיִקְרֵי עֲלָךְ קֳדָם יְיָ וִיהֵי בָךְ חוֹבָא: (י) מִתַּן תִּתֵּן לֵיהּ וְלָא יַבְאֵשׁ לִבָּךְ בְּמִתְּנָךְ לֵיהּ אֲרֵי בְּדִיל פִּתְגָּמָא הָדֵין יְבָרֵכִנָּךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בְּכָל עוֹבָדָךְ וּבְכֹל אוֹשָׁטוּת יְדָךְ: (יא) אֲרֵי לָא יִפְסוֹק מִסְכֵּנָא מִגּוֹ אַרְעָא עַל כֵּן אֲנָא מְפַקְּדָךְ לְמֵימַר מִפְתַּח תִּפְתַּח יָת יְדָךְ לַאֲחוּךְ לְעַנְיָךְ וּלְמִסְכֵּנָךְ בְּאַרְעָךְ:
7. If there will be a needy person among you, from one of your brethren in one of your gates in your land that Hashem your God gives to you, don’t harden your heart and don’t close your hand from your needy brother. 8. Rather, you shall surely open your hand and you shall surely lend sufficient for his need that he lacks. 9. Guard yourself lest there be a matter in evil[3] with your heart, saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of release, is near,’ and your eye be evil against your needy brother and you don’t give (to) him, and he calls against you before Hashem, and it will be a sin in you. 10. Surely give to him and let it not be evil in your heart when you give to him, because on account for this matter, Hashem your God will bless you in all your deeds and in every sending of your hand. 11. Because needy (people) will not cease from the midst of your land. Therefore, I command you, saying: you shall surely open your hand to your brother – to your poor and to your needy in your land.
(יב) כִּֽי־יִמָּכֵ֨ר לְךָ֜ אָחִ֣יךָ הָֽעִבְרִ֗י א֚וֹ הָֽעִבְרִיָּ֔ה וַעֲבָֽדְךָ֖ שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וּבַשָּׁנָה֙ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔ת תְּשַׁלְּחֶ֥נּוּ חׇפְשִׁ֖י מֵעִמָּֽךְ׃ (יג) וְכִֽי־תְשַׁלְּחֶ֥נּוּ חׇפְשִׁ֖י מֵֽעִמָּ֑ךְ לֹ֥א תְשַׁלְּחֶ֖נּוּ רֵיקָֽם׃ (יד) הַעֲנֵ֤יק תַּעֲנִיק֙ ל֔וֹ מִצֹּ֣אנְךָ֔ וּמִֽגׇּרְנְךָ֖ וּמִיִּקְבֶ֑ךָ אֲשֶׁ֧ר בֵּרַכְךָ֛ יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ תִּתֶּן־לֽוֹ׃ (טו) וְזָכַרְתָּ֗ כִּ֣י עֶ֤בֶד הָיִ֙יתָ֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם וַֽיִּפְדְּךָ֖ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ עַל־כֵּ֞ן אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּךָ֛ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה הַיּֽוֹם׃ (טז) וְהָיָה֙ כִּֽי־יֹאמַ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יךָ לֹ֥א אֵצֵ֖א מֵעִמָּ֑ךְ כִּ֤י אֲהֵֽבְךָ֙ וְאֶת־בֵּיתֶ֔ךָ כִּי־ט֥וֹב ל֖וֹ עִמָּֽךְ׃ (יז) וְלָקַחְתָּ֣ אֶת־הַמַּרְצֵ֗עַ וְנָתַתָּ֤ה בְאׇזְנוֹ֙ וּבַדֶּ֔לֶת וְהָיָ֥ה לְךָ֖ עֶ֣בֶד עוֹלָ֑ם וְאַ֥ף לַאֲמָתְךָ֖ תַּעֲשֶׂה־כֵּֽן׃ (יח) לֹא־יִקְשֶׁ֣ה בְעֵינֶ֗ךָ בְּשַׁלֵּֽחֲךָ֨ אֹת֤וֹ חׇפְשִׁי֙ מֵֽעִמָּ֔ךְ כִּ֗י מִשְׁנֶה֙ שְׂכַ֣ר שָׂכִ֔יר עֲבָֽדְךָ֖ שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וּבֵֽרַכְךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֶֽׂה׃ {פ}
(יב) אֲרֵי יִזְדַּבַּן לָךְ אֲחוּךְ בַּר יִשְׂרָאֵל אוֹ בַּת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיִפְלְחִנָּךְ שִׁית שְׁנִין וּבְשַׁתָּא שְׁבִיעֲתָא תִּפְטְרִנֵּיהּ בַּר חוֹרִין מֵעִמָּךְ: (יג) וַאֲרֵי תִפְטְרִנֵּיהּ בַּר חוֹרִין מֵעִמָּךְ לָא תִפְטְרִנֵּיהּ רֵיקָן: (יד) אַפְרָשָׁא תַפְרֵשׁ לֵיהּ מֵעָנָךְ וּמֵאִדְּרָךְ וּמִמַּעֲצַרְתָּךְ דִּי בָרְכָךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ תִּתֶּן לֵיהּ: (טו) וְתִדְכַּר אֲרֵי עַבְדָּא הֲוֵיתָא בְּאַרְעָא דְמִצְרַיִם וּפָרְקָךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ עַל כֵּן אֲנָא מְפַקְּדָךְ יָת פִּתְגָּמָא הָדֵין יוֹמָא דֵין: (טז) וִיהֵי אֲרֵי יֵימַר לָךְ לָא אֶפּוֹק מֵעִמָּךְ אֲרֵי רָחֲמָךְ וְיָת אֱנַשׁ בֵּיתָךְ אֲרֵי טַב לֵיהּ עִמָּךְ: (יז) וְתִסַּב יָת מַרְצְעָא וְתִתֵּן בְּאֻדְנֵיהּ וּבְדָשָׁא וִיהֵי לָךְ עִבֵד פָּלַח לְעָלָם וְאַף לְאַמְתָךְ תַּעְבֶּד כֵּן: (יח) לָא יִקְשֵׁי בְעֵינָךְ בְּמִפְטְרָךְ יָתֵיהּ בַּר חוֹרִין מֵעִמָּךְ אֲרֵי עַל חַד תְּרֵין כַּאֲגַר אֲגִירָא פָּלְחָךְ שִׁית שְׁנִין וִיבָרֵכִנָּךְ יְיָ אֳלָהָךְ בְּכֹל דִּי תַעְבֵּד:
12. If your brother – a son of Israel or a daughter of Israel[4] – is sold to you, he shall serve you six years and in the seventh year you shall release him a free man from you.[5] 13. And when you release him a free man from you, don’t release him empty(-handed). 14. You shall surely separate for him from your flock, and from your threshing floor, and from your press[6] – (from) that (which) Hashem your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. 15. Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt and Hashem your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this matter today. 16. It will be if he will he say to you, ‘I will not go out from you’ because he loves you and the members of your household because it is good for him with you, 17. you shall take the awl and put it in his ear and in the door; he will be a servant to you serving forever. And also to your female servant you shall do thus. 18. Let it not be difficult in your eyes when you release him a free man from you because he has served you twice as much as a hired worker (for) six years. Hashem your God will bless you in all that you do.
