Chapter 14
(א) בָּנִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם לֹ֣א תִתְגֹּֽדְד֗וּ וְלֹֽא־תָשִׂ֧ימוּ קׇרְחָ֛ה בֵּ֥ין עֵינֵיכֶ֖ם לָמֵֽת׃ (ב) כִּ֣י עַ֤ם קָדוֹשׁ֙ אַתָּ֔ה לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ וּבְךָ֞ בָּחַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה לִֽהְי֥וֹת לוֹ֙ לְעַ֣ם סְגֻלָּ֔ה מִכֹּל֙ הָֽעַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ {ס}
(א) בְּנִין אַתּוּן קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהֲכוֹן לָא תִתְחַמְמוּן וְלָא תְשַׁוּוּן מְרָט בֵּין עֵינֵיכוֹן עַל מִית: (ב) אֲרֵי עַם קַדִּישׁ אַתְּ קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ וּבָךְ אִתִּרְעֵי יְיָ לְמֶהֱוֵי לֵיהּ לְעַם חַבִּיב מִכֹּל עַמְמַיָּא דִּי עַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא:
1. You are children before Hashem your God. Do not cut yourselves and do not make a bald spot between your eyes for the dead, 2. because you are a holy people before Hashem your God, and Hashem your God desired you to be a cherished[1] people to Him from all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
(ג) לֹ֥א תֹאכַ֖ל כׇּל־תּוֹעֵבָֽה׃ (ד) זֹ֥את הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר תֹּאכֵ֑לוּ שׁ֕וֹר שֵׂ֥ה כְשָׂבִ֖ים וְשֵׂ֥ה עִזִּֽים׃ (ה) אַיָּ֥ל וּצְבִ֖י וְיַחְמ֑וּר וְאַקּ֥וֹ וְדִישֹׁ֖ן וּתְא֥וֹ וָזָֽמֶר׃ (ו) וְכׇל־בְּהֵמָ֞ה מַפְרֶ֣סֶת פַּרְסָ֗ה וְשֹׁסַ֤עַת שֶׁ֙סַע֙ שְׁתֵּ֣י פְרָס֔וֹת מַעֲלַ֥ת גֵּרָ֖ה בַּבְּהֵמָ֑ה אֹתָ֖הּ תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (ז) אַ֣ךְ אֶת־זֶ֞ה לֹ֤א תֹֽאכְלוּ֙ מִמַּֽעֲלֵ֣י הַגֵּרָ֔ה וּמִמַּפְרִיסֵ֥י הַפַּרְסָ֖ה הַשְּׁסוּעָ֑ה אֶֽת־הַ֠גָּמָ֠ל וְאֶת־הָאַרְנֶ֨בֶת וְאֶת־הַשָּׁפָ֜ן כִּֽי־מַעֲלֵ֧ה גֵרָ֣ה הֵ֗מָּה וּפַרְסָה֙ לֹ֣א הִפְרִ֔יסוּ טְמֵאִ֥ים הֵ֖ם לָכֶֽם׃ (ח) וְאֶת־הַ֠חֲזִ֠יר כִּֽי־מַפְרִ֨יס פַּרְסָ֥ה הוּא֙ וְלֹ֣א גֵרָ֔ה טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶ֑ם מִבְּשָׂרָם֙ לֹ֣א תֹאכֵ֔לוּ וּבְנִבְלָתָ֖ם לֹ֥א תִגָּֽעוּ׃ {ס}
(ג) לָא תֵיכוּל כָּל דִּמְרָחָק: (ד) דֵּין בְּעִירָא דְּתֵיכְלוּן תּוֹרִין אִמְּרִין דִּרְחֵלִין וְגָדְיָן דְּעִזִּין: (ה) אַיָּלָא וְטַבְיָא וְיַחְמוּרָא וְיַעְלָא וְרֵימָא וְתוֹרְבָּלָא וְדִיצָא: (ו) וְכָל בְּעִירָא דִּסְדִיקָא פַרְסָתָא וּמַטִּלְפָא טִלְפִין תַּרְתֵּין פַּרְסָתָא מַסְּקָא פִשְׁרָא בִּבְעִירָא יָתַהּ תֵּיכְלוּן: (ז) בְּרַם יָת דֵּין לָא תֵיכְלוּן מִמַּסְּקֵי פִשְׁרָא וּמִמַּסְדִּיקֵי פַרְסָתָא מַטִּלְפֵי טִלְפַיָּא יָת גַּמְלָא וְיָת אַרְנְבָא וְיָת טַפְזָא אֲרֵי מַסְּקֵי פִשְׁרָא אִנּוּן וּפַרְסָתְהוֹן לָא סְדִיקָא מְסָאֲבִין אִנּוּן לְכוֹן: (ח) וְיָת חֲזִירָא אֲרֵי מַסְדִּיק פַּרְסָתָא הוּא וְלָא פָשַׁר מְסָאָב הוּא לְכוֹן מִבִּסְרְהוֹן לָא תֵיכְלוּן וּבִנְבִלְתְּהוֹן לָא תִקְרְבוּן:
3. Do not eat anything that is disgusting. 4. These are the animals that you may eat: oxen, lambs of ewes,[2] and kids of goats; 5. the deer, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the ibex, and the chamois, and the antelope, and the giraffe,[3] 6. and every animal that has a split hoof and its hooves are cloven (into) two hooves, (and) brings up the cud – among animals, that you may eat. 7. But these you may not eat of those that bring up the cud or[4] have split hooves that are cloven (into two) hooves: the camel, the hare and the hyrax, because they bring up cud and they don’t have split hooves – they are unclean to you; 8. and the pig, because it has hooves that are cloven and it doesn’t chew (cud), it is unclean to you. Of their flesh you shall not eat and their carcasses you shall not touch.
(ט) אֶת־זֶה֙ תֹּֽאכְל֔וּ מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּמָּ֑יִם כֹּ֧ל אֲשֶׁר־ל֛וֹ סְנַפִּ֥יר וְקַשְׂקֶ֖שֶׂת תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (י) וְכֹ֨ל אֲשֶׁ֧ר אֵֽין־ל֛וֹ סְנַפִּ֥יר וְקַשְׂקֶ֖שֶׂת לֹ֣א תֹאכֵ֑לוּ טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶֽם׃ {ס}
(ט) יָת דֵּין תֵּיכְלוּן מִכֹּל דִּי בְמַיָּא כֹּל דִּי לֵיהּ צִיצִין וְקַלְפִין תֵּיכְלוּן: (י) וְכֹל דִּי לֵית לֵיהּ צִיצִין וְקַלְפִין לָא תֵיכְלוּן מְסָאָב הוּא לְכוֹן:
9. This you may eat of all that is in the water: everything that has fins and scales you may eat. 10. And everything that doesn’t have fins and scales you may not eat: it is unclean to you.
(יא) כׇּל־צִפּ֥וֹר טְהֹרָ֖ה תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (יב) וְזֶ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־תֹאכְל֖וּ מֵהֶ֑ם הַנֶּ֥שֶׁר וְהַפֶּ֖רֶס וְהָֽעׇזְנִיָּֽה׃ (יג) וְהָרָאָה֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣אַיָּ֔ה וְהַדַּיָּ֖ה לְמִינָֽהּ׃ (יד) וְאֵ֥ת כׇּל־עֹרֵ֖ב לְמִינֽוֹ׃ (טו) וְאֵת֙ בַּ֣ת הַֽיַּעֲנָ֔ה וְאֶת־הַתַּחְמָ֖ס וְאֶת־הַשָּׁ֑חַף וְאֶת־הַנֵּ֖ץ לְמִינֵֽהוּ׃ (טז) אֶת־הַכּ֥וֹס וְאֶת־הַיַּנְשׁ֖וּף וְהַתִּנְשָֽׁמֶת׃ (יז) וְהַקָּאָ֥ת וְאֶֽת־הָרָחָ֖מָה וְאֶת־הַשָּׁלָֽךְ׃ (יח) וְהַ֣חֲסִידָ֔ה וְהָאֲנָפָ֖ה לְמִינָ֑הּ וְהַדּוּכִיפַ֖ת וְהָעֲטַלֵּֽף׃ (יט) וְכֹל֙ שֶׁ֣רֶץ הָע֔וֹף טָמֵ֥א ה֖וּא לָכֶ֑ם לֹ֖א יֵאָכֵֽלוּ׃ (כ) כׇּל־ע֥וֹף טָה֖וֹר תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃ (כא) לֹ֣א תֹאכְל֣וּ כׇל־נְ֠בֵלָ֠ה לַגֵּ֨ר אֲשֶׁר־בִּשְׁעָרֶ֜יךָ תִּתְּנֶ֣נָּה וַאֲכָלָ֗הּ א֤וֹ מָכֹר֙ לְנׇכְרִ֔י כִּ֣י עַ֤ם קָדוֹשׁ֙ אַתָּ֔ה לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ לֹֽא־תְבַשֵּׁ֥ל גְּדִ֖י בַּחֲלֵ֥ב אִמּֽוֹ׃ {פ}
(יא) כָּל צִפַּר דַּכְיָא תֵּיכְלוּן: (יב) וְדֵין דִּי לָא תֵיכְלוּן מִנְּהוֹן נִשְׁרָא וְעָר וְעַזְיָא: (יג) וּבַת כַּנְפָא וְטָרָפִיתָא וְדַיְּתָא לִזְנַהּ: (יד) וְיָת כָּל עֹרְבָא לִזְנֵיהּ: (טו) וְיָת בַּת נַעֲמִיתָא וְצִיצָא וְצִפַּר שַׁחְפָּא וְנָצָא לִזְנוֹהִי: (טז) וְקַדְיָא וְקִפּוֹפָא וּבַוְתָא: (יז) וְקָתָא וִירַקְרֵקָא וְשָׁלֵי נוּנָא: (יח) וְחַוָּרִיתָא וְאִבּוּ לִזְנַהּ וְנַגַּר טוּרָא וַעֲטַלֵּפָא: (יט) וְכֹל רִחֲשָׁא דְעוֹפָא מְסָאָב הוּא לְכוֹן לָא יִתְאָכְלוּן: (כ) כָּל עוֹפָא דְכֵי תֵּיכְלוּן: (כא) לָא תֵיכְלוּן כָּל נְבִילָא לְתוֹתַב עָרֵל דִּי בְקִרְוָיךְ תִּתְּנִנַּהּ וְיֵיכְלִנַּהּ אוֹ תְזַבְּנִנַּהּ לְבַר עַמְמִין אֲרֵי עַם קַדִּישׁ אַתְּ קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לָא תֵיכוּל בְּשַׂר בַּחֲלָב:
11. Every clean bird you may eat. 12. This is what you may not eat from them:[5] the eagle, and the vulture and the osprey, 13. and the buzzard, and the kite, and the falcon according to its species, 14. and every raven according to its species, 15. and the ostrich, and the nighthawk, and the sea gull,[6] and the hawk according to their species, 16. the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl, 17. and the pelican, and the bustard, and the cormorant, 18. and the stork, and the heron according to its species, and the hoopoe, and the bat. 19. All winged swarming things[7] are unclean to you; they may not be eaten. 20. Every clean bird you may eat. 21. Do not eat any carcass; give it to the uncircumcised resident[8] who is in your cities and he will eat it, or sell it to a citizen of (the) nations,[9] because you are a holy people before Hashem your God. Do not eat meat in (…) milk.[10]
