Chapter 7
(א) כִּ֤י יְבִֽיאֲךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֶל־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה בָא־שָׁ֖מָּה לְרִשְׁתָּ֑הּ וְנָשַׁ֣ל גּֽוֹיִם־רַבִּ֣ים ׀ מִפָּנֶ֡יךָ הַֽחִתִּי֩ וְהַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֨י וְהָאֱמֹרִ֜י וְהַכְּנַעֲנִ֣י וְהַפְּרִזִּ֗י וְהַֽחִוִּי֙ וְהַיְבוּסִ֔י שִׁבְעָ֣ה גוֹיִ֔ם רַבִּ֥ים וַעֲצוּמִ֖ים מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ (ב) וּנְתָנָ֞ם יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ לְפָנֶ֖יךָ וְהִכִּיתָ֑ם הַחֲרֵ֤ם תַּחֲרִים֙ אֹתָ֔ם לֹא־תִכְרֹ֥ת לָהֶ֛ם בְּרִ֖ית וְלֹ֥א תְחׇנֵּֽם׃ (ג) וְלֹ֥א תִתְחַתֵּ֖ן בָּ֑ם בִּתְּךָ֙ לֹא־תִתֵּ֣ן לִבְנ֔וֹ וּבִתּ֖וֹ לֹא־תִקַּ֥ח לִבְנֶֽךָ׃ (ד) כִּֽי־יָסִ֤יר אֶת־בִּנְךָ֙ מֵֽאַחֲרַ֔י וְעָבְד֖וּ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וְחָרָ֤ה אַף־יְהֹוָה֙ בָּכֶ֔ם וְהִשְׁמִידְךָ֖ מַהֵֽר׃ (ה) כִּֽי־אִם־כֹּ֤ה תַעֲשׂוּ֙ לָהֶ֔ם מִזְבְּחֹתֵיהֶ֣ם תִּתֹּ֔צוּ וּמַצֵּבֹתָ֖ם תְּשַׁבֵּ֑רוּ וַאֲשֵֽׁירֵהֶם֙ תְּגַדֵּע֔וּן וּפְסִילֵיהֶ֖ם תִּשְׂרְפ֥וּן בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ (ו) כִּ֣י עַ֤ם קָדוֹשׁ֙ אַתָּ֔ה לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ בְּךָ֞ בָּחַ֣ר ׀ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ לִהְי֥וֹת לוֹ֙ לְעַ֣ם סְגֻלָּ֔ה מִכֹּל֙ הָֽעַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ (ז) לֹ֣א מֵֽרֻבְּכֶ֞ם מִכׇּל־הָֽעַמִּ֗ים חָשַׁ֧ק יְהֹוָ֛ה בָּכֶ֖ם וַיִּבְחַ֣ר בָּכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־אַתֶּ֥ם הַמְעַ֖ט מִכׇּל־הָעַמִּֽים׃ (ח) כִּי֩ מֵאַֽהֲבַ֨ת יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶתְכֶ֗ם וּמִשׇּׁמְר֤וֹ אֶת־הַשְּׁבֻעָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִשְׁבַּע֙ לַאֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם הוֹצִ֧יא יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶתְכֶ֖ם בְּיָ֣ד חֲזָקָ֑ה וַֽיִּפְדְּךָ֙ מִבֵּ֣ית עֲבָדִ֔ים מִיַּ֖ד פַּרְעֹ֥ה מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (ט) וְיָ֣דַעְתָּ֔ כִּֽי־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ ה֣וּא הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים הָאֵל֙ הַֽנֶּאֱמָ֔ן שֹׁמֵ֧ר הַבְּרִ֣ית וְהַחֶ֗סֶד לְאֹהֲבָ֛יו וּלְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י מִצְוֺתָ֖ו לְאֶ֥לֶף דּֽוֹר׃ (י) וּמְשַׁלֵּ֧ם לְשֹׂנְאָ֛יו אֶל־פָּנָ֖יו לְהַאֲבִיד֑וֹ לֹ֤א יְאַחֵר֙ לְשֹׂ֣נְא֔וֹ אֶל־פָּנָ֖יו יְשַׁלֶּם־לֽוֹ׃ (יא) וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֨ אֶת־הַמִּצְוָ֜ה וְאֶת־הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים וְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּךָ֛ הַיּ֖וֹם לַעֲשׂוֹתָֽם׃ {פ}
(א) אֲרֵי יְעֵלִנָּךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְאַרְעָא דִּי אַתְּ עָלֵל לְתַמָּן לְמֵירְתַהּ וִיתָרֵךְ עַמְמִין סַגִּיאִין מִן קֳדָמָךְ חִתָּאֵי וְגִרְגָּשָׁאֵי וֶאֱמֹרָאֵי וּכְנַעֲנָאֵי וּפְרִזָּאֵי וְחִוָּאֵי וִיבוּסָאֵי שִׁבְעָא עַמְמִין סַגִּיאִין וְתַקִּיפִין מִנָּךְ: (ב) וְיִמְסְרִנּוּן יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ קֳדָמָךְ וְתִמְחִנּוּן גַּמָּרָא תְגַמַּר יָתְהוֹן לָא תִגְזַר לְהוֹן קְיָם וְלָא תְרַחַם עֲלֵיהוֹן: (ג) וְלָא תִתְחַתַּן בְּהוֹן בְּרַתָּךְ לָא תִתֵּן לִבְרֵיהּ וּבְרַתֵּיהּ לָא תִסַּב לִבְרָךְ: (ד) אֲרֵי יַטְעֲיַן יָת בְּרָךְ מִבָּתַר פָּלְחָנִי וְיִפְלְחוּן לְטַעֲוַת עַמְמַיָּא וְיִתְקֵף רָגְזָא דַיְיָ בְּכוֹן וִישֵׁצָךְ בִּפְרִיעַ: (ה) אֲרֵי אִם כְּדֵין תַּעְבְּדוּן לְהוֹן אֱגוֹרֵיהוֹן תְּתָרְעוּן וְקָמָתְהוֹן תְּתַבְּרוּן וַאֲשֵׁרֵיהוֹן תְּקוֹצְצוּן וְצַלְמֵי טַעֲוָתְהוֹן תּוֹקְדוּן בְּנוּרָא: (ו) אֲרֵי עַם קַדִּישׁ אַתְּ קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בָּךְ אִתִּרְעֵי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְמֶהֱוֵי לֵיהּ לְעַם חַבִּיב מִכֹּל עַמְמַיָּא דִּי עַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא: (ז) לָא מִדְּסַגִּיאִין אַתּוּן מִכָּל עַמְמַיָּא צָבֵי יְיָ בְּכוֹן וְאִתִּרְעֵי בְכוֹן אֲרֵי אַתּוּן זְעֵרִין מִכָּל עַמְמַיָּא: (ח) אֲרֵי מִדְּרַחַם יְיָ יָתְכוֹן וּמִדִּנְטַר יָת קְיָמָא דִּי קַיִּים לַאֲבָהָתְכוֹן אַפֵּיק יְיָ יָתְכוֹן בִּידָא תַקִּיפָא וּפָרְקָךְ מִבֵּית עַבְדוּתָא מִידָא דְפַרְעֹה מַלְכָּא דְמִצְרָיִם: (ט) וְתִדַּע אֲרֵי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ הוּא אֱלֹּהִים אֱלָהָא מְהֵימְנָא נָטֵר קְיָמָא וְחִסְדָּא לְרַחֲמוֹהִי וּלְנָטְרֵי פִקּוֹדוֹהִי לְאַלְפֵי דָרִין: (י) וּמְשַׁלֵּם לְסָנְאוֹהִי טָבָן דִּי אִנּוּן עָבְדִין קֳדָמוֹהִי בְּחַיֵּיהוֹן לְאוֹבָדֵיהוֹן לָא מְאַחַר עֹבַד טָב לְסָנְאוֹהִי טַבְוָן דִּי אִנּוּן עָבְדִין קֳדָמוֹהִי בְּחַיֵּיהוֹן מְשַׁלֵּם לְהוֹן: (יא) וְתִטַּר יָת תַּפְקֶדְתָּא וְיָת קְיָמַיָּא וְיָת דִּינַיָּא דִי אֲנָא מְפַקְּדָךְ יוֹמָא דֵין לְמֶעְבָּדְהוֹן:
1. When Hashem your God brings you to the land to which you are coming in to inherit, and He drives[1] out many nations from before you – the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the P’rizites, and the Chivites and Jebusites[2] – seven nations more numerous and mightier than you, 2. and Hashem your God gives them before you and you strike them, you shall surely destroy them; do not carve a covenant with them and do not have mercy on them.[3] 3. And do not marry with them; your daughter do not give to his son, and his daughter do not take for your son. 4. Because they will make your sons stray from following My service and they will serve the ‘errors’ of the nations, and Hashem’s anger will intensify against you, and He will quickly destroy you. 5. Rather, so shall you do to them: you shall tear down their mounds,[4] and smash their pillars, and cut down their asheiras,[5] and burn their images in fire. 6. For you are a holy people before Hashem your God; Hashem your God desired in you to be a precious[6] people to Him from all the peoples that are on the face of the earth 7. Not because you are most numerous of all peoples did Hashem want you and desire you, because you are the smallest of all the peoples; 8. rather, because Hashem loves you, and because He keeps the oath[7] that He swore to your fathers, Hashem took you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. 9. Know that Hashem your God, He is the God, the faithful God Who keeps the covenant and the kindness to those who love Him and to those who keep His commandments – to thousands of generations – 10. and He repays those who hate Him: the good that they perform before him in their life, to destroy them. He doesn’t delay (repaying) a good act to those who hate Him; the good that they do before Him he repays to them in their life. 11. Observe the commandment, and the statutes and the laws that I command you today to perform them.
