Chapter 6
(א) וְזֹ֣את הַמִּצְוָ֗ה הַֽחֻקִּים֙ וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֛ה יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם לְלַמֵּ֣ד אֶתְכֶ֑ם לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת בָּאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתֶּ֛ם עֹבְרִ֥ים שָׁ֖מָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ (ב) לְמַ֨עַן תִּירָ֜א אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ לִ֠שְׁמֹ֠ר אֶת־כׇּל־חֻקֹּתָ֣יו וּמִצְוֺתָיו֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָנֹכִ֣י מְצַוֶּ֒ךָ֒ אַתָּה֙ וּבִנְךָ֣ וּבֶן־בִּנְךָ֔ כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֣י חַיֶּ֑יךָ וּלְמַ֖עַן יַאֲרִכֻ֥ן יָמֶֽיךָ׃ (ג) וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֤ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֣ לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר֙ יִיטַ֣ב לְךָ֔ וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּרְבּ֖וּן מְאֹ֑ד כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ דִּבֶּ֨ר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י אֲבֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ לָ֔ךְ אֶ֛רֶץ זָבַ֥ת חָלָ֖ב וּדְבָֽשׁ׃ {פ}
(א) וְדָא תַפְקֶדְתָּא קְיָמַיָּא וְדִינַיָּא דִּי פַקִּיד יְיָ אֱלָהֲכוֹן לְאַלָּפָא יָתְכוֹן לְמֶעְבַּד בְּאַרְעָא דִּי אַתּוּן עָבְרִין תַּמָּן לְמֵירְתַהּ: (ב) בְּדִיל דְּתִדְחַל קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְמִטַּר יָת כָּל קְיָמוֹהִי וּפִקּוּדוֹהִי דִּי אֲנָא מְפַקְּדָךְ אַתְּ וּבְרָךְ וּבַר בְּרָךְ כָּל יוֹמֵי חַיָּיךְ וּבְדִיל דְּיוֹרְכוּן יוֹמָיךְ: (ג) וּתְקַבֵּל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְתִטַּר לְמֶעְבַּד דִּי יֵיטַב לָךְ וְדִי תִסְגּוּן לַחֲדָא כְּמָא דִי מַלִּיל יְיָ אֱלָהָא דַאֲבָהָתָךְ לָךְ אַרְעָא עָבְדָא חֲלַב וּדְבָשׁ:
1. This is the commandment, the statutes and the laws that Hashem your God commanded (me) to teach you, to perform in the land that you cross there to inherit, 2. so that you will revere before Hashem your God to observe all His statutes and His commandments that I command you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life, and in order to lengthen your days. 3. Accept, Israel, and observe to perform, that it will be good for you and that you will increase much, as Hashem the God of your fathers said to you, (in) a land that generates milk and honey.
(ד) שְׁמַ֖ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יְהֹוָ֥ה ׀ אֶחָֽד׃ (ה) וְאָ֣הַבְתָּ֔ אֵ֖ת יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ בְּכׇל־לְבָבְךָ֥ וּבְכׇל־נַפְשְׁךָ֖ וּבְכׇל־מְאֹדֶֽךָ׃ (ו) וְהָי֞וּ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּךָ֛ הַיּ֖וֹם עַל־לְבָבֶֽךָ׃ (ז) וְשִׁנַּנְתָּ֣ם לְבָנֶ֔יךָ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֖ בָּ֑ם בְּשִׁבְתְּךָ֤ בְּבֵיתֶ֙ךָ֙ וּבְלֶכְתְּךָ֣ בַדֶּ֔רֶךְ וּֽבְשׇׁכְבְּךָ֖ וּבְקוּמֶֽךָ׃ (ח) וּקְשַׁרְתָּ֥ם לְא֖וֹת עַל־יָדֶ֑ךָ וְהָי֥וּ לְטֹטָפֹ֖ת בֵּ֥ין עֵינֶֽיךָ׃ (ט) וּכְתַבְתָּ֛ם עַל־מְזֻז֥וֹת בֵּיתֶ֖ךָ וּבִשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃ {ס}
(ד) שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְיָ אֱלָהָנָא יְיָ חָד: (ה) וְתִרְחַם יָת יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בְּכָל לִבָּךְ וּבְכָל נַפְשָׁךְ וּבְכָל נִכְסָךְ: (ו) וִיהוֹן פִּתְגָּמַיָּא הָאִלֵּין דִּי אֲנָא מְפַקְּדָךְ יוֹמָא דֵין עַל לִבָּךְ: (ז) וּתְתָנִנּוּן לִבְנָיךְ וּתְמַלֵּל בְּהוֹן בְּמִתְּבָךְ בְּבֵיתָךְ וּבִמְהָכָךְ בְּאָרְחָא וּבְמִשְׁכְּבָךְ וּבִמְקִימָךְ: (ח) וְתִקְטְרִנּוּן לְאָת עַל יְדָךְ וִיהוֹן לִתְפִלִּין בֵּין עֵינָיךְ: (ט) וְתִכְתְּבִנּוּן עַל מְזוּזְיָן וְתִקְבְּעִנּוּן בְּסִפֵּי בֵיתָךְ וּבְתַרְעָיךְ:
4. Listen, Israel: Hashem is our God, Hashem is One. 5. You shall love Hashem your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your wealth. 6. These words that I command you today shall be upon your heart. 7. Teach them to your children; speak in them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, and when you lie down and when you get up. 8. Tie them as a sign on your hand and they shall be tefillin[1] between your eyes. 9. Write them on mezuzahs[2] and attach them to the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
(י) וְהָיָ֞ה כִּ֥י יְבִיאֲךָ֣ ׀ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ אֶל־הָאָ֜רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִשְׁבַּ֧ע לַאֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ לְאַבְרָהָ֛ם לְיִצְחָ֥ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֖ב לָ֣תֶת לָ֑ךְ עָרִ֛ים גְּדֹלֹ֥ת וְטֹבֹ֖ת אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־בָנִֽיתָ׃ (יא) וּבָ֨תִּ֜ים מְלֵאִ֣ים כׇּל־טוּב֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־מִלֵּ֒אתָ֒ וּבֹרֹ֤ת חֲצוּבִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־חָצַ֔בְתָּ כְּרָמִ֥ים וְזֵיתִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־נָטָ֑עְתָּ וְאָכַלְתָּ֖ וְשָׂבָֽעְתָּ׃ (יב) הִשָּׁ֣מֶר לְךָ֔ פֶּן־תִּשְׁכַּ֖ח אֶת־יְהֹוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר הוֹצִֽיאֲךָ֛ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם מִבֵּ֥ית עֲבָדִֽים׃ (יג) אֶת־יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ תִּירָ֖א וְאֹת֣וֹ תַעֲבֹ֑ד וּבִשְׁמ֖וֹ תִּשָּׁבֵֽעַ׃ (יד) לֹ֣א תֵֽלְכ֔וּן אַחֲרֵ֖י אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים מֵאֱלֹהֵי֙ הָֽעַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר סְבִיבוֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ (טו) כִּ֣י אֵ֥ל קַנָּ֛א יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בְּקִרְבֶּ֑ךָ פֶּן־יֶ֠חֱרֶ֠ה אַף־יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ בָּ֔ךְ וְהִשְׁמִ֣ידְךָ֔ מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ {ס}
(י) וִיהֵי אֲרֵי יָעֵלִנָּךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְאַרְעָא דִּי קַיִּים לַאֲבָהָתָךְ לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב לְמִתַּן לָךְ קִרְוִין רַבְרְבָן וְטָבָן דִּי לָא בְנֵיתָא: (יא) וּבָתִּין מְלָן כָּל טוּב דִּי לָא מַלֵּיתָא וְגֻבִּין פְּסִילָן דִּי לָא פְסַלְתָּא כַּרְמִין וְזֵיתִין דִּי לָא נְצֶבְתָּא וְתֵיכוּל וְתִשְׂבָּע: (יב) אִסְתַּמַּר לָךְ דִּילְמָא תִנְשֵׁי יָת דַּחַלְתָּא דַיְיָ דִּי אַפְּקָךְ מֵאַרְעָא דְמִצְרַיִם מִבֵּית עַבְדוּתָא: (יג) יָת יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ תִּדְחַל וְקָדָמוֹהִי תִּפְלָח וּבִשְׁמֵיהּ תְּקַיַּם: (יד) לָא תְהָכוּן בָּתַר טַעֲוַת עַמְמַיָּא מִטַּעֲוַת עַמְמַיָּא דִּי בְסַחֲרָנֵיכוֹן: (טו) אֲרֵי אֵל קַנָּא יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ שְׁכִנְתֵּיהּ בֵּינָךְ דִּילְמָא יִתְקֵף רָגְזָא דַיְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בָּךְ וִישֵׁצָךְ מֵעַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא:
10. It will be when Hashem your God brings you to the land that He swore to your fathers – to Avraham, and to Yitzchak and to Yaakov – to give to you, great and good cities that you didn’t build, 11. and houses full of all good that you didn’t fill, and wells dug that you didn’t dig,[3] vineyards and olives that you didn’t plant, and you will eat and be satisfied. 12. Guard yourself lest you forget the reverence of[4] Hashem, Who took you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. 13. You shall revere Hashem your God and before Him you shall serve, and in His name you shall swear. 14. Do not go after the ‘errors’ of the nations, from the ‘errors’ of the peoples who are all around you, 15. because Hashem your God is a zealous God – His presence is among you – lest the anger of Hashem your God intensify against you, and destroy you from upon the face of the earth.
(טז) לֹ֣א תְנַסּ֔וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר נִסִּיתֶ֖ם בַּמַּסָּֽה׃ (יז) שָׁמ֣וֹר תִּשְׁמְר֔וּן אֶת־מִצְוֺ֖ת יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְעֵדֹתָ֥יו וְחֻקָּ֖יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּֽךְ׃ (יח) וְעָשִׂ֛יתָ הַיָּשָׁ֥ר וְהַטּ֖וֹב בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה לְמַ֙עַן֙ יִ֣יטַב לָ֔ךְ וּבָ֗אתָ וְיָֽרַשְׁתָּ֙ אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַטֹּבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהֹוָ֖ה לַאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃ (יט) לַהֲדֹ֥ף אֶת־כׇּל־אֹיְבֶ֖יךָ מִפָּנֶ֑יךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
(טז) לָא תְנַסּוּן קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהֲכוֹן כְּמָא דִי נַסֵּתוּן בְּנִסֵּיתָא: (יז) מִטַּר תִּטְּרוּן יָת פִּקּוּדַיָּא דַּיְיָ אֱלָהֲכוֹן וּסְהֶדְוָתֵיהּ וּקְיָמוֹהִי דִּי פַקְדָּךְ: (יח) וְתַעְבֵּד דְּכָשַׁר וּדְתַקֵן קֳדָם יְיָ בְּדִיל דְּיֵיטַב לָךְ וְתֵעוּל וְתֵירַת יָת אַרְעָא טַבְתָא דִּי קַיִּים יְיָ לַאֲבָהָתָךְ: (יט) לְמִתְּבַר יָת כָּל בַּעֲלֵי דְבָבָךְ מִקֳּדָמָךְ כְּמָא דִי מַלִּיל יְיָ:
16. Do not test before Hashem your God, as you tested (Him) in the test.[5] 17. Surely observe the commandments of Hashem your God, and His testimonies and His statutes that He commanded you. 18. Do what is fit and what is correct before Hashem[6] in order that it will be good for you, and you will come and inherit the good land that Hashem your God swore to your fathers, 19. to break[7] all your enemies from before you, as Hashem said.
(כ) כִּֽי־יִשְׁאָלְךָ֥ בִנְךָ֛ מָחָ֖ר לֵאמֹ֑ר מָ֣ה הָעֵדֹ֗ת וְהַֽחֻקִּים֙ וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֛ה יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ אֶתְכֶֽם׃ (כא) וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ לְבִנְךָ֔ עֲבָדִ֛ים הָיִ֥ינוּ לְפַרְעֹ֖ה בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וַיֹּצִיאֵ֧נוּ יְהֹוָ֛ה מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם בְּיָ֥ד חֲזָקָֽה׃ (כב) וַיִּתֵּ֣ן יְהֹוָ֡ה אוֹתֹ֣ת וּ֠מֹפְתִ֠ים גְּדֹלִ֨ים וְרָעִ֧ים ׀ בְּמִצְרַ֛יִם בְּפַרְעֹ֥ה וּבְכׇל־בֵּית֖וֹ לְעֵינֵֽינוּ׃ (כג) וְאוֹתָ֖נוּ הוֹצִ֣יא מִשָּׁ֑ם לְמַ֙עַן֙ הָבִ֣יא אֹתָ֔נוּ לָ֤תֶת לָ֙נוּ֙ אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לַאֲבֹתֵֽינוּ׃ (כד) וַיְצַוֵּ֣נוּ יְהֹוָ֗ה לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־כׇּל־הַחֻקִּ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה לְיִרְאָ֖ה אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ לְט֥וֹב לָ֙נוּ֙ כׇּל־הַיָּמִ֔ים לְחַיֹּתֵ֖נוּ כְּהַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ (כה) וּצְדָקָ֖ה תִּֽהְיֶה־לָּ֑נוּ כִּֽי־נִשְׁמֹ֨ר לַעֲשׂ֜וֹת אֶת־כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָ֣ה הַזֹּ֗את לִפְנֵ֛י יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּֽנוּ׃ {ס}
(כ) אֲרֵי יִשְׁאֲלִנָּךְ בְּרָךְ מְחָר לְמֵימָר מָא סָהֶדְוָתָא וּקְיָמַיָּא וְדִינַיָּא דִּי פַקִּיד יְיָ אֱלָהָנָא יָתְכוֹן: (כא) וְתֵימַר לִבְנָךְ עַבְדִין הֲוֵינָא לְפַרְעֹה בְּמִצְרָיִם וְאַפְּקָנָא יְיָ מִמִּצְרַיִם בִּידָא תַקִּיפָא: (כב) וִיהַב יְיָ אָתִין וּמוֹפְתִין רַבְרְבִין וּבִישִׁין בְּמִצְרַיִם בְּפַרְעֹה וּבְכָל אֱנַשׁ בֵּיתֵיהּ לְעֵינָנָא: (כג) וְיָתָנָא אַפֵּק מִתַּמָּן בְּדִיל לְאַעֲלָא יָתָנָא לְמִתַּן לָנָא יָת אַרְעָא דִּי קַיִּים לַאֲבָהָתָנָא: (כד) וּפַקְּדָנָא יְיָ לְמֶעְבַּד יָת כָּל קְיָמַיָּא הָאִלֵּין לְמִדְחַל יָת יְיָ אֱלָהָנָא לְטַב לָנָא כָּל יוֹמַיָּא לְקַיָּמוּתָנָא כְּיוֹמָא הָדֵין: (כה) וְזָכוּתָא תְּהֵיא לָנָא אֲרֵי נִטַּר לְמֶעְבַּד יָת כָּל תַּפְקֶדְתָּא הָדָא קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהָנָא כְּמָא דִי פַקְּדָנָא:
20. When your son will ask you in the future[8] saying, ‘What are the testimonies, and the statutes and the laws that Hashem our God has commanded you?’ 21. you shall say to your son, ‘We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt and Hashem brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand. 22. Hashem gave signs and wonders – great and terrible – in Egypt, against Pharaoh and against all his household members before our eyes. 23. And He brought us out from there, in order to bring us in to give us the land that He swore to our fathers. 24. Hashem commanded us to perform all these statutes, to revere before Hashem our God, for good for us all the days, to cause us to live, as this very day. 25. It will be a merit[9] for us that we observe to perform all this commandment before Hashem our God, as He commanded us.’
