2,923. Obligating Oneself in the Shaving of a Nazir

Hilchos Nezirus 8:17

If a father put money aside for impurity offerings and subsequently died, his son may not use those funds to buy purity offerings. Similarly, if the father put money aside for purity offerings, the son may not use them for offerings when he shaves in impurity because these things are a case of doubt. If someone brought his offerings using such funds, he has not fulfilled his obligation.

Hilchos Nezirus 8:18

If someone says, “I obligate myself to shave a nazir,” he must provide the shaving-in-purity offerings, which are to be offered by any nazir he chooses. If he says, “I obligate myself to bring half the offerings of a nazir,” or “I obligate myself to shave half a nazir,” he must bring half the offerings of any nazir he chooses. That nazir brings the rest of his offerings using his own funds. However, if someone says: “I obligate myself to bring the offerings of a half-nazir,” he must bring all of a nazir’s offerings because there’s no such thing as a half-nazir.
