2,917. Does a Bald Nazir Shave?
Hilchos Nezirus 8:5
A bald nazir need not pass a razor over his head. A nazir can still bring his offerings even if he doesn’t have hair (to shave) or palms (to wave the offering), after which he can drink wine and be rendered unclean. If he brought his offerings but didn’t shave his head, it doesn’t prevent him from drinking wine or being rendered unclean that evening. Once the blood of one of his offerings is sprinkled on him, he becomes permitted even if the parts weren’t placed on his palms and he didn’t wave them; these things are a mitzvah, they’re not indispensable.
Hilchos Nezirus 8:6
While shaving is not indispensable, it’s still a mitzvah for the nazir to do so even if a long time has passed. If a nazir shaves with something other than a razor, or if he shaved but he left two hairs, it’s as if he didn’t shave at all because this doesn’t fulfill the mitzvah. This applies to both a nazir who shaves in purity and one who shaves in impurity.
