(ב) וַיַּ֥רְא בָּלָ֖ק בֶּן־צִפּ֑וֹר אֵ֛ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לָֽאֱמֹרִֽי׃ (ג) וַיָּ֨גׇר מוֹאָ֜ב מִפְּנֵ֥י הָעָ֛ם מְאֹ֖ד כִּ֣י רַב־ה֑וּא וַיָּ֣קׇץ מוֹאָ֔ב מִפְּנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ד) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מוֹאָ֜ב אֶל־זִקְנֵ֣י מִדְיָ֗ן עַתָּ֞ה יְלַחֲכ֤וּ הַקָּהָל֙ אֶת־כׇּל־סְבִ֣יבֹתֵ֔ינוּ כִּלְחֹ֣ךְ הַשּׁ֔וֹר אֵ֖ת יֶ֣רֶק הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וּבָלָ֧ק בֶּן־צִפּ֛וֹר מֶ֥לֶךְ לְמוֹאָ֖ב בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִֽוא׃ (ה) וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח מַלְאָכִ֜ים אֶל־בִּלְעָ֣ם בֶּן־בְּע֗וֹר פְּ֠ת֠וֹרָה אֲשֶׁ֧ר עַל־הַנָּהָ֛ר אֶ֥רֶץ בְּנֵי־עַמּ֖וֹ לִקְרֹא־ל֑וֹ לֵאמֹ֗ר הִ֠נֵּ֠ה עַ֣ם יָצָ֤א מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ הִנֵּ֤ה כִסָּה֙ אֶת־עֵ֣ין הָאָ֔רֶץ וְה֥וּא יֹשֵׁ֖ב מִמֻּלִֽי׃ (ו) וְעַתָּה֩ לְכָה־נָּ֨א אָֽרָה־לִּ֜י אֶת־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֗ה כִּֽי־עָצ֥וּם הוּא֙ מִמֶּ֔נִּי אוּלַ֤י אוּכַל֙ נַכֶּה־בּ֔וֹ וַאֲגָרְשֶׁ֖נּוּ מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּ֣י יָדַ֗עְתִּי אֵ֤ת אֲשֶׁר־תְּבָרֵךְ֙ מְבֹרָ֔ךְ וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר תָּאֹ֖ר יוּאָֽר׃ (ז) וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ זִקְנֵ֤י מוֹאָב֙ וְזִקְנֵ֣י מִדְיָ֔ן וּקְסָמִ֖ים בְּיָדָ֑ם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ אֵלָ֖יו דִּבְרֵ֥י בָלָֽק׃ (ח) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם לִ֤ינוּ פֹה֙ הַלַּ֔יְלָה וַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֤י אֶתְכֶם֙ דָּבָ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ שָׂרֵֽי־מוֹאָ֖ב עִם־בִּלְעָֽם׃ (ט) וַיָּבֹ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־בִּלְעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מִ֛י הָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה עִמָּֽךְ׃ (י) וַיֹּ֥אמֶר בִּלְעָ֖ם אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים בָּלָ֧ק בֶּן־צִפֹּ֛ר מֶ֥לֶךְ מוֹאָ֖ב שָׁלַ֥ח אֵלָֽי׃ (יא) הִנֵּ֤ה הָעָם֙ הַיֹּצֵ֣א מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם וַיְכַ֖ס אֶת־עֵ֣ין הָאָ֑רֶץ עַתָּ֗ה לְכָ֤ה קָֽבָה־לִּי֙ אֹת֔וֹ אוּלַ֥י אוּכַ֛ל לְהִלָּ֥חֶם בּ֖וֹ וְגֵרַשְׁתִּֽיו׃ (יב) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם לֹ֥א תֵלֵ֖ךְ עִמָּהֶ֑ם לֹ֤א תָאֹר֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם כִּ֥י בָר֖וּךְ הֽוּא׃
(ב) וַחֲזָא בָּלָק בַּר צִפּוֹר יָת כָּל דִּי עֲבַד יִשְׂרָאֵל לֶאֱמוֹרָאֵי: (ג) וּדְחֵל מוֹאֲבָאָה מִן קֳדָם עַמָּא לַחֲדָא אֲרֵי סַגִּי הוּא וַעֲקַת לְמוֹאֲבָאָה מִן קֳדָם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: (ד) וַאֲמַר מוֹאָב לְסָבֵי מִדְיָן כְּעַן יְשֵׁיצוּן קְהָלָא יָת כָּל סַחֲרָנָנָא כְּמָא דִמְלַחִיךְ תּוֹרָא יָת יְרוֹקָא דְחַקְלָא וּבָלָק בַּר צִפּוֹר מַלְכָּא לְמוֹאָב בְּעִדָּנָא הַהִיא: (ה) וּשְׁלַח אִזְגַּדִּין לְוָת בִּלְעָם בַּר בְּעוֹר לִפְתוֹר אֲרָם דְעַל פְּרָת אֲרַע בְּנֵי עַמֵּיהּ לְמִקְרֵי לֵיהּ לְמֵימָר הָא עַמָּא נְפַק מִמִּצְרַיִם הָא חֲפָא יָת עֵין שִׁמְשָׁא דְאַרְעָא וְהוּא שָׁרֵי מִלְּקִבְלִי: (ו) וּכְעַן אִיתָא כְעַן לוֹט לִי יָת עַמָּא הָדֵין אֲרֵי תַקִּיף הוּא מִנִּי מָאִים אֵכּוּל לְאַגָּחָא בֵיהּ קְרָב וַאֲתָרֵכִנֵּיהּ מִן אַרְעָא אֲרֵי יְדַעְנָא יָת דִּי תְבָרַךְ מְבָרָךְ וְדִי תְלוֹט לִיט: (ז) וַאֲזָלוּ סָבֵי מוֹאָב וְסָבֵי מִדְיָן וְקִסְמַיָּא בִּידֵיהוֹן וַאֲתוֹ לְוָת בִּלְעָם וּמַלִּילוּ עִמֵּיהּ פִּתְגָּמֵי בָלָק: (ח) וַאֲמַר לְהוֹן בִּיתוּ הָכָא בְּלֵילְיָא וְאָתֵב יָתְכוֹן פִּתְגָּמָא כְּמָא דִּי מַלֵּיל יְיָ עִמִּי וְאוֹרִיכוּ רַבְרְבֵי מוֹאָב עִם בִּלְעָם: (ט) וַאֲתָא מֵימַר מִן קֳדָם יְיָ לְוָת בִּלְעָם וַאֲמַר מָן גֻּבְרַיָּא הָאִלֵּין דְּעִמָּךְ: (י) וַאֲמַר בִּלְעָם קֳדָם יְיָ בָּלָק בַּר צִפּוֹר מַלְכָּא דְמוֹאָב שְׁלַח לְוָתִי: (יא) הָא עַמָּא דִּי נְפַק מִמִּצְרַיִם וַחֲפָא יָת עֵין שִׁמְשָׁא דְאַרְעָא כְּעַן אִיתָא לוֹט לִי יָתֵיהּ מָאִים אֵיכוּל לְאַגָּחָא בֵיהּ קְרָב וַאֲתָרֵכִנֵּיהּ: (יב) וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְבִלְעָם לָא תֵזִל עִמְּהוֹן לָא תְלוּט יָת עַמָּא אֲרֵי בְרִיךְ הוּא:
2. Balak son of Tzipor saw all that Israel had done to the Emorites. 3. The Moabite[1] was greatly afraid before the people because it was numerous. The Moabite was distressed from before the children of Israel. 4. The Moabite said to the elders of Midian, “Now this community will destroy all that is around us like an ox licks up the vegetables of the field.” And Balak son of Tzipor was king to Moav at that time. 5. He sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor in Pesor (of) Aram, which is on the Euphrates (in) the land of his countrymen, to invite him, saying, “Behold, a people came out from Egypt. Behold, it conceals the eye of the sun (on) the land and it camps next to me. 6. Now come now, curse this people for me, since it is too strong for me. Perhaps I can battle against it and drive it from the land because I know that whom you bless is blessed and whom you curse is cursed.” 7. The elders of Moav and the elders of Midian went, and talismans in their hands. They came to Balaam and they spoke Balak’s words with him. 8. He said to them, “Stay here at night[2] and I’ll return word to you as Hashem will tell me.” The officers of Moav stayed with Balaam. 9. A word came to Balaam from before Hashem and said, “Who are these men who are with you?” 10. Balaam said before Hashem, “Balak son of Tzipor, king of Moav, sent (a message) to me: 11. Behold the people that came out from Egypt and conceals the eye of the sun (on) the land. Now come and curse it for me. Maybe I can battle it and drive it away.” 12. Hashem said to Balaam, “Do not go with them. You shall not curse that people because they are blessed.”
