(כא) וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶל־סִיחֹ֥ן מֶֽלֶךְ־הָאֱמֹרִ֖י לֵאמֹֽר׃ (כב) אֶעְבְּרָ֣ה בְאַרְצֶ֗ךָ לֹ֤א נִטֶּה֙ בְּשָׂדֶ֣ה וּבְכֶ֔רֶם לֹ֥א נִשְׁתֶּ֖ה מֵ֣י בְאֵ֑ר בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ נֵלֵ֔ךְ עַ֥ד אֲשֶֽׁר־נַעֲבֹ֖ר גְּבֻלֶֽךָ׃ (כג) וְלֹא־נָתַ֨ן סִיחֹ֣ן אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ עֲבֹ֣ר בִּגְבֻלוֹ֒ וַיֶּאֱסֹ֨ף סִיחֹ֜ן אֶת־כׇּל־עַמּ֗וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֞א לִקְרַ֤את יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הַמִּדְבָּ֔רָה וַיָּבֹ֖א יָ֑הְצָה וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (כד) וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְפִי־חָ֑רֶב וַיִּירַ֨שׁ אֶת־אַרְצ֜וֹ מֵֽאַרְנֹ֗ן עַד־יַבֹּק֙ עַד־בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן כִּ֣י עַ֔ז גְּב֖וּל בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃ (כה) וַיִּקַּח֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֵ֥ת כׇּל־הֶעָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּכׇל־עָרֵ֣י הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י בְּחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וּבְכׇל־בְּנֹתֶֽיהָ׃ (כו) כִּ֣י חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן עִ֗יר סִיחֹ֛ן מֶ֥לֶךְ הָאֱמֹרִ֖י הִ֑וא וְה֣וּא נִלְחַ֗ם בְּמֶ֤לֶךְ מוֹאָב֙ הָֽרִאשׁ֔וֹן וַיִּקַּ֧ח אֶת־כׇּל־אַרְצ֛וֹ מִיָּד֖וֹ עַד־אַרְנֹֽן׃ (כז) עַל־כֵּ֛ן יֹאמְר֥וּ הַמֹּשְׁלִ֖ים בֹּ֣אוּ חֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן תִּבָּנֶ֥ה וְתִכּוֹנֵ֖ן עִ֥יר סִיחֽוֹן׃ (כח) כִּי־אֵשׁ֙ יָֽצְאָ֣ה מֵֽחֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן לֶהָבָ֖ה מִקִּרְיַ֣ת סִיחֹ֑ן אָֽכְלָה֙ עָ֣ר מוֹאָ֔ב בַּעֲלֵ֖י בָּמ֥וֹת אַרְנֹֽן׃ (כט) אוֹי־לְךָ֣ מוֹאָ֔ב אָבַ֖דְתָּ עַם־כְּמ֑וֹשׁ נָתַ֨ן בָּנָ֤יו פְּלֵיטִם֙ וּבְנֹתָ֣יו בַּשְּׁבִ֔ית לְמֶ֥לֶךְ אֱמֹרִ֖י סִיחֽוֹן׃ (ל) וַנִּירָ֛ם אָבַ֥ד חֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן עַד־דִּיבֹ֑ן וַנַּשִּׁ֣ים עַד־נֹ֔פַח אֲשֶׁ֖רׄ עַד־מֵֽידְבָֽא׃ (לא) וַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּאֶ֖רֶץ הָאֱמֹרִֽי׃ (לב) וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח מֹשֶׁה֙ לְרַגֵּ֣ל אֶת־יַעְזֵ֔ר וַֽיִּלְכְּד֖וּ בְּנֹתֶ֑יהָ ויירש [וַיּ֖וֹרֶשׁ] אֶת־הָאֱמֹרִ֥י אֲשֶׁר־שָֽׁם׃ (לג) וַיִּפְנוּ֙ וַֽיַּעֲל֔וּ דֶּ֖רֶךְ הַבָּשָׁ֑ן וַיֵּצֵ֣א עוֹג֩ מֶֽלֶךְ־הַבָּשָׁ֨ן לִקְרָאתָ֜ם ה֧וּא וְכׇל־עַמּ֛וֹ לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה אֶדְרֶֽעִי׃ (לד) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֤ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֙ אַל־תִּירָ֣א אֹת֔וֹ כִּ֣י בְיָדְךָ֞ נָתַ֧תִּי אֹת֛וֹ וְאֶת־כׇּל־עַמּ֖וֹ וְאֶת־אַרְצ֑וֹ וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ לּ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֗יתָ לְסִיחֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּחֶשְׁבּֽוֹן׃ (לה) וַיַּכּ֨וּ אֹת֤וֹ וְאֶת־בָּנָיו֙ וְאֶת־כׇּל־עַמּ֔וֹ עַד־בִּלְתִּ֥י הִשְׁאִֽיר־ל֖וֹ שָׂרִ֑יד וַיִּֽירְשׁ֖וּ אֶת־אַרְצֽוֹ׃
(כא) וּשְׁלַח יִשְׂרָאֵל אִזְגַּדִּין לְוָת סִיחוֹן מַלְכָּא דֶאֱמוֹרָאָה לְמֵימָר: (כב) אֲעִבַר בְּאַרְעָךְ לָא נִסְטֵי בַּחֲקַל וּבִכְרַם לָא נִשְׁתֵּי מֵי גוֹב בְּאֹרַח מַלְכָּא נֵזֵל עַד דִּי נְעִבַר תְּחוּמָךְ: (כג) וְלָא שְׁבַק סִיחוֹן יָת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמֶעְבַּר בִּתְחוּמֵיהּ וּכְנַשׁ סִיחוֹן יָת כָּל עַמֵּיהּ וּנְפַק לָקֳדָמוּת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמַדְבְּרָא וַאֲתָא לְיָהַץ וִאַגִּיחַ קְרָבָא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל: (כד) וּמְחָהִי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְפִתְגַּם דְּחָרֶב וִירֵת יָת אַרְעֵיהּ מְאַרְנוֹנָא עַד יוּבְקָא עַד בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן אֲרֵי תַקִּיף תְּחוּמָא דִּבְנֵי עַמּוֹן: (כה) וּכְבַשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל יָת כָּל קִרְוַיָּא הָאִלֵּין וִיתֵב יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּכָל קִרְוֵי אֱמוֹרָאָה בְּחֶשְׁבּוֹן וּבְכָל כַּפְרָנָהָא: (כו) אֲרֵי חֶשְׁבּוֹן קַרְתָּא דְּסִיחוֹן מַלְכָּא דֶאֱמוֹרָאָה הִיא וְהוּא אַגַּח קְרָבָא בְּמַלְכָּא דְמוֹאָב קַדְמָאָה וּנְסִיב יָת כָּל אַרְעֵיהּ מִידֵיהּ עַד אַרְנוֹן: (כז) עַל כֵּן יֵימְרוּן מְתָלַיָּא עוּלוּ לְחֶשְׁבּוֹן תִּתְבְּנֵי וְתִשְׁתַּכְלַל קַרְתָּא דְסִיחוֹן: (כח) אֲרֵי קִידוּם תַּקִּיף כְּאֶשָּׁא נְפַק מֵחֶשְׁבּוֹן עָבְדֵי קְרָבָא כְּשַׁלְהוֹבִיתָא מִקַּרְתָּא דְסִיחוֹן קְטִילוּ עַמָּא דִּשְׁרוֹ בִלְחָיַת מוֹאָב כּוּמְרַיָּא דְּפָלְחִין בֵּית דַּחֲלָא רָמָתָא דְאַרְנוֹן: (כט) וַי לְכוֹן מוֹאָבָאֵי אֲבַדְתּוּן עַמָּא דְפָלְחִין לִכְמוֹשׁ מְסַר בְּנוֹהִי צִירִין וּבְנָתֵיהּ בְּשִׁבְיָא לְמַלְכָּא דֶאֱמוֹרָאָה סִיחוֹן: (ל) וּמַלְכוּ פְסָקַת מֵחֶשְׁבּוֹן עֲדָא שׁוּלְטַן מִדִּיבוֹן וְצַדִיאוּ עַד נֹפַח דִּסְמִיךְ עַד מֵידְבָא: (לא) וִיתֵב יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּאֲרַע אֱמוֹרָאָה: (לב) וּשְׁלַח משֶׁה לְאַלָּלָא יָת יַעְזֵר וּכְבָשׁוּ כַּפְרָנָהָא וְתָרִיךְ יָת אֱמוֹרָאָה דִּי תַמָּן: (לג) וְאִתְפְּנִיאוּ וּסְלִיקוּ לְאֹרַח מַתְנָן וּנְפַק עוֹג מַלְכָּא דְמַתְנָן לָקֳדָמוּתְהוֹן הוּא וְכָל עַמֵּיהּ לְאַגָּחָא קְרָבָא לְאֶדְרֶעִי: (לד) וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה לָא תִדְחַל מִנֵּיהּ אֲרֵי בִידָךְ מְסָרִית יָתֵיהּ וְיָת כָּל עַמֵּיהּ וְיָת אַרְעֵיהּ וְתַעְבֵּד לֵיהּ כְּמָא דִי עֲבַדְתְּ לְסִיחוֹן מַלְכָּא דֶאֱמוֹרָאָה דִּי יָתֵב בְּחֶשְׁבּוֹן: (לה) וּמְחוֹ יָתֵיהּ וְיָת בְּנוֹהִי וְיָת כָּל עַמֵּיהּ עַד דְּלָא אִשְׁתְּאַר לֵיהּ מְשֵׁזִיב וִירִיתוּ יָת אַרְעֵיהּ:
21. Israel sent messengers to Sichon, king of the Emorites, saying, 22. “I would pass through your land. We will not turn off into field(s) or into vineyard(s), and we will not drink well water. We will traverse the king’s highway until we have crossed your border.” 23. And Sichon wouldn’t permit Israel to cross his border. Sichon gathered all his people and he went out to meet Israel in the wilderness. He came to Yahatz and battled against Israel. 24. Israel struck them by the word of his sword and took possession of their land from Arnon to Yabok, until the children of Ammon, because the border of the children of Ammon was strong. 25. Israel conquered[1] all these cities, and Israel settled in all the cities of the Emorites, in Cheshbon and all its suburbs.[2] 26. Because Cheshbon was the city of Sichon, king of the Emorites, and he battled against the first king of Moav and took all his land from his hand until Arnon. 27. Therefore the storytellers[3] would say, “Come to Cheshbon; built and established, Sichon’s city. 28. For a mighty east wind like fire went out from Cheshbon, warriors like flame from Sichon’s city, they killed the nation that dwelled in L’chayas (of) Moav, the priests who serve in the house of the “god” in the heights of Arnon. 29. Woe to you, Moabites![4] You are lost, people who serve Chemosh! His sons are given tied[5] and his daughters captives for an Emorite king, Sichon.” 30. Sovereignty has stopped from Cheshbon; dominion was removed from Divon and they[6] laid waste up to Nofach, which is close to Meidva. 31. Israel dwelled in the land of the Emorites. 32. Moshe sent (people) to spy out Yazeir; they captured its suburbs and drove out the Emorites who were there. 33. They turned and ascended towards the way to Masnan.[7] Og, king of Masnan, went out to meet them – he and all his people, to battle in Edrei. 34. Hashem said to Moshe, “Do not fear him for I give him and all his people and his land into your hand. You shall do to him as you did to Sichon, king of the Emorites, who dwelled in Cheshbon.” 35. They struck him and his sons and all his people until no remnant remained for him; they took possession of his land.
Chapter 22
(א) וַיִּסְע֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ בְּעַֽרְב֣וֹת מוֹאָ֔ב מֵעֵ֖בֶר לְיַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵחֽוֹ׃ {ס}
(א) וּנְטָלוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּשְׁרוֹ בְּמֵשְׁרַיָּא דְמוֹאָב מֵעִבְרָא לְיַרְדְּנָא דִירֵחוֹ:
1. The children of Israel traveled and they camped in the plains of Moav, across the Jordan from Jericho.
