(כב) וַיִּסְע֖וּ מִקָּדֵ֑שׁ וַיָּבֹ֧אוּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל כׇּל־הָעֵדָ֖ה הֹ֥ר הָהָֽר׃ (כג) וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֖ן בְּהֹ֣ר הָהָ֑ר עַל־גְּב֥וּל אֶֽרֶץ־אֱד֖וֹם לֵאמֹֽר׃ (כד) יֵאָסֵ֤ף אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶל־עַמָּ֔יו כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָבֹא֙ אֶל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל עַ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־מְרִיתֶ֥ם אֶת־פִּ֖י לְמֵ֥י מְרִיבָֽה׃ (כה) קַ֚ח אֶֽת־אַהֲרֹ֔ן וְאֶת־אֶלְעָזָ֖ר בְּנ֑וֹ וְהַ֥עַל אֹתָ֖ם הֹ֥ר הָהָֽר׃ (כו) וְהַפְשֵׁ֤ט אֶֽת־אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶת־בְּגָדָ֔יו וְהִלְבַּשְׁתָּ֖ם אֶת־אֶלְעָזָ֣ר בְּנ֑וֹ וְאַהֲרֹ֥ן יֵאָסֵ֖ף וּמֵ֥ת שָֽׁם׃ (כז) וַיַּ֣עַשׂ מֹשֶׁ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהֹוָ֑ה וַֽיַּעֲלוּ֙ אֶל־הֹ֣ר הָהָ֔ר לְעֵינֵ֖י כׇּל־הָעֵדָֽה׃ (כח) וַיַּפְשֵׁט֩ מֹשֶׁ֨ה אֶֽת־אַהֲרֹ֜ן אֶת־בְּגָדָ֗יו וַיַּלְבֵּ֤שׁ אֹתָם֙ אֶת־אֶלְעָזָ֣ר בְּנ֔וֹ וַיָּ֧מׇת אַהֲרֹ֛ן שָׁ֖ם בְּרֹ֣אשׁ הָהָ֑ר וַיֵּ֧רֶד מֹשֶׁ֛ה וְאֶלְעָזָ֖ר מִן־הָהָֽר׃ (כט) וַיִּרְאוּ֙ כׇּל־הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה כִּ֥י גָוַ֖ע אַהֲרֹ֑ן וַיִּבְכּ֤וּ אֶֽת־אַהֲרֹן֙ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים י֔וֹם כֹּ֖ל בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {ס}
(כב) וּנְטָלוּ מֵרְקָם וַאֲתוֹ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא לְהֹר טוּרָא: (כג) וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן בְּהֹר טוּרָא עַל תְּחוּם אַרְעָא דֶאֱדוֹם לְמֵימָר: (כד) יִתְכְּנֵשׁ אַהֲרֹן לְעַמֵּיהּ אֲרֵי לָא יֵיעוֹל לְאַרְעָא דִּי יְהָבִית לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל דִּי סָרִיבְתּוּן עַל מֵימְרִי לְמֵי מַצּוּתָא: (כה) דְּבַר יָת אַהֲרֹן וְיָת אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ וְאַסֵּיק יָתְהוֹן לְהֹר טוּרָא: (כו) וְאַשְׁלַח יָת אַהֲרֹן יָת לְבוּשׁוֹהִי וְתַלְבֵּשִׁנּוּן יָת אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ וְאַהֲרֹן יִתְכְּנֵשׁ וִימוּת תַּמָּן: (כז) וַעֲבַד משֶׁה כְּמָא דִי פַּקִּיד יְיָ וּסְלִיקוּ לְהֹר טוּרָא לְעֵינֵי כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא: (כח) וְאַשְׁלַח משֶׁה יָת אַהֲרֹן יָת לְבוּשׁוֹהִי וְאַלְבֵּישׁ יָתְהוֹן יָת אֶלְעָזָר בְּרֵיהּ וּמִית אַהֲרֹן תַּמָּן בְּרֵישׁ טוּרָא וּנְחַת משֶׁה וְאֶלְעָזָר מִן טוּרָא: (כט) וַחֲזוֹ כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא אֲרֵי מִית אַהֲרֹן וּבְכוֹ יָת אַהֲרֹן תְּלָתִין יוֹמִין כֹּל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל:
22. They traveled from Rekam and the children of Israel – the entire congregation – came to Mount Hor. 23. Hashem said to Moshe and to Aharon at Mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying, 24. “Aharon will be gathered to his people because he will not come to the land that I gave the children of Israel, because you rebelled against My word regarding the waters of dispute. 25. Take Aharon and Elazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor. 26. Strip Aharon of his garments and dress Elazar his son with them, Aharon will be gathered and die there.” 27. Moshe did as Hashem commanded. They ascended Mount Hor in the eyes of the entire congregation. 28. Moshe stripped Aharon of his garments and he dressed Elazar his son with them. Aharon died there on top of the mountain. Moshe and Elazar descended from the mountain. 29. The entire congregation saw that Aharon had died. The whole house of Israel cried for Aharon (for) thirty days.
Chapter 21
(א) וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע הַכְּנַעֲנִ֤י מֶֽלֶךְ־עֲרָד֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב הַנֶּ֔גֶב כִּ֚י בָּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל דֶּ֖רֶךְ הָאֲתָרִ֑ים וַיִּלָּ֙חֶם֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּ֥שְׁבְּ ׀ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ שֶֽׁבִי׃ (ב) וַיִּדַּ֨ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל נֶ֛דֶר לַֽיהֹוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אִם־נָתֹ֨ן תִּתֵּ֜ן אֶת־הָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ בְּיָדִ֔י וְהַֽחֲרַמְתִּ֖י אֶת־עָרֵיהֶֽם׃ (ג) וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע יְהֹוָ֜ה בְּק֣וֹל יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיִּתֵּן֙ אֶת־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י וַיַּחֲרֵ֥ם אֶתְהֶ֖ם וְאֶת־עָרֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּקְרָ֥א שֵׁם־הַמָּק֖וֹם חׇרְמָֽה׃ {פ}
(א) וּשְׁמַע כְּנַעֲנָאָה מַלְכָּא דַעֲרָד יָתֵב דָּרוֹמָא אֲרֵי אֲתָא יִשְׂרָאֵל אֹרַח מְאַלְלַיָּא וְאַגַּח קְרָבָא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וּשְׁבָא מִנֵּיהּ שִׁבְיָא: (ב) וְקַיֵּם יִשְׂרָאֵל קְיָם קֳדָם יְיָ וַאֲמַר אִם מִמְסַר תִּמְסַר יָת עַמָּא הָדֵין בִּידִי וַאֲגַמַּר יָת קִרְוֵיהוֹן: (ג) וְקַבֵּיל יְיָ צְלוֹתֵיהּ דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וּמְסַר יָת כְּנַעֲנָאָה וְגַמַּר יָתְהוֹן וְיָת קִרְוֵיהוֹן וּקְרָא שְׁמָא דְאַתְרָא חָרְמָה:
1. The Canaanite, king of Arad, who dwelled in the South, heard that Israel was coming by the way of the spies; he battled against Israel and took some of them captive. 2. Israel swore an oath[1] before Hashem; he said, “If You deliver this people into my hand, I will ban their cities.” 3. Hashem accepted Israel’s prayer and He delivered the Canaanite(s); they and their cities were destroyed.[2] He called the name of the place Chormah.[3]
(ד) וַיִּסְע֞וּ מֵהֹ֤ר הָהָר֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יַם־ס֔וּף לִסְבֹ֖ב אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ אֱד֑וֹם וַתִּקְצַ֥ר נֶֽפֶשׁ־הָעָ֖ם בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ (ה) וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר הָעָ֗ם בֵּֽאלֹהִים֮ וּבְמֹשֶׁה֒ לָמָ֤ה הֶֽעֱלִיתֻ֙נוּ֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם לָמ֖וּת בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְאֵ֣ין מַ֔יִם וְנַפְשֵׁ֣נוּ קָ֔צָה בַּלֶּ֖חֶם הַקְּלֹקֵֽל׃ (ו) וַיְשַׁלַּ֨ח יְהֹוָ֜ה בָּעָ֗ם אֵ֚ת הַנְּחָשִׁ֣ים הַשְּׂרָפִ֔ים וַֽיְנַשְּׁכ֖וּ אֶת־הָעָ֑ם וַיָּ֥מׇת עַם־רָ֖ב מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ז) וַיָּבֹא֩ הָעָ֨ם אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֜ה וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ חָטָ֗אנוּ כִּֽי־דִבַּ֤רְנוּ בַֽיהֹוָה֙ וָבָ֔ךְ הִתְפַּלֵּל֙ אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה וְיָסֵ֥ר מֵעָלֵ֖ינוּ אֶת־הַנָּחָ֑שׁ וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּעַ֥ד הָעָֽם׃ (ח) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה עֲשֵׂ֤ה לְךָ֙ שָׂרָ֔ף וְשִׂ֥ים אֹת֖וֹ עַל־נֵ֑ס וְהָיָה֙ כׇּל־הַנָּשׁ֔וּךְ וְרָאָ֥ה אֹת֖וֹ וָחָֽי׃ (ט) וַיַּ֤עַשׂ מֹשֶׁה֙ נְחַ֣שׁ נְחֹ֔שֶׁת וַיְשִׂמֵ֖הוּ עַל־הַנֵּ֑ס וְהָיָ֗ה אִם־נָשַׁ֤ךְ הַנָּחָשׁ֙ אֶת־אִ֔ישׁ וְהִבִּ֛יט אֶל־נְחַ֥שׁ הַנְּחֹ֖שֶׁת וָחָֽי׃
(ד) וּנְטָלוּ מְהֹר טוּרָא אֹרַח יַמָּא דְסוּף לְאַקָּפָא יָת אַרְעָא דֶאֱדוֹם וַעֲקַת נַפְשָׁא דְעַמָּא בְּאוֹרְחָא: (ה) וְאִתְרַעַם עַמָּא בְּמֵימְרָא דַיְיָ וְעִם משֶׁה נְצוֹ לְמָא אַסֶּקְתּוּנָא מִמִּצְרַיִם לִמְמַת בְּמַדְבְּרָא אֲרֵי לֵית לַחְמָא וְלֵית מַיָּא וְנַפְשָׁנָא עָקַת בְּמַנָּא הָדֵין דְּמֵיכְלֵיהּ קָלִיל: (ו) וְגָרֵי יְיָ בְּעַמָּא יָת חִיוַן קָלָן וּנְכִיתוּ יָת עַמָּא וּמִית עַם סַגִּי מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל: (ז) וַאֲתָא עַמָּא לְמשֶׁה וַאֲמָרוּ חַבְנָא אֲרֵי אִתְרַעַמְנָא קֳדָם יְיָ וְעִמָּךְ נְצֵינָא צַלִּי קֳדָם יְיָ וְיַעֲדִּי מִנָּנָא יָת חִוְיָא וְצַלִּי משֶׁה עַל עַמָּא: (ח) וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה עֲבֵיד לָךְ קָלְיָא וְשַׁוֵּי יָתֵיהּ עַל אָת וִיהֵי כָּל דְּיִתְנְכִית וְיֶחֱזֵי יָתֵיהּ וְיִתְקַיָּם: (ט) וַעֲבַד משֶׁה חִוְיָא דִנְחָשָׁא וְשַׁוְיֵיהּ עַל אָת וַהֲוָה כַּד נָכִית חִוְיָא יָת גַּבְרָא וּמִסְתַּכֵּל לְחִוְיָא דִנְחָשָׁא וּמִתְקַיָּם:
4. They traveled from Mount Hor by way of the Sea of Reeds to go around the land of Edom. But the soul of the people became agitated[4] on the way. 5. The people complained against Hashem’s word and they argued with Moshe: “Why did you bring us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness? Because there’s no bread and no water, and our soul is distraught with this manna, which is insubstantial food.” 6. Hashem provoked[5] fiery serpents against the people. They bit the people and many people of Israel died. 7. The people came to Moshe. They said, “We sinned because we complained before Hashem and argued with you. Pray before Hashem and remove the serpents from us!” Moshe prayed on behalf of the people. 8. Hashem said to Moshe, “Make for yourself (an image of) a fiery (snake). Place it on a pole and it will be (that) all who were bitten shall look at it and survive.”[6] 9. Moshe made a copper serpent and placed it on a pole. It would happen if a serpent bit a man, he would look at the copper serpent and survive.
